Friday Faves!

Friday, May 31, 2019

Happy Friday!!!  Today's post is short and sweet because I've got to get outside and go exercise!

Back at the beginning of May, I asked on IG for recommendations for tinted moisturizers with spf.  I don't wear make up a ton in the summer unless I'm going somewhere nice (aka dinner or church) so I wanted something to give me a little color/smoothness and that had spf because that is so important to me now.

I've used this a handful of times and love it!!  It's great especially if you have combination skin and it literally feels like silk going on--it's the softest!!  I got the color light and it matches perfectly.  I know it's technically a tinted primer (so you can also use it under your make up), but the girl at Sephora assured me it's perfect as a tinted moisturizer and it has been!

I received a package in the mail from a sweet blog reader in Scotland (Hi, Madeleine!!) with a local issue celebrating Archie's birth--loved it!!!  And she included Scottish candies for me to taste, too!  That's definitely my favorite package of the month!

That's it for today!  I'm headed outside to go run.  I hope y'all have a great weekend and I'll see y'all back on Monday!

What's Up Wednesday (on a Thursday!)

Thursday, May 30, 2019

Hey y'all!  I'm a day late on the What's Up Wednesday....oops!  Tuesday was a really long and busy day, so I went to bed as soon as I put Harrison down Tuesday night.  This is one of my favorite posts, so I wanted to make sure I participated--can't wait to read everyone's!

What we're eating this week...
Monday we grilled chicken and steak kabobs.
Tuesday we had brunch at a new to us place, Another Broken Egg Cafe.  It was great!
Wednesday, we fended for ourselves for supper.
Tonight, I'm making sloppy joes.

What I'm reminiscing about...
I was looking back at pictures of Harrison the other day and wanted to cry realizing how big he's gotten!!  This was taken in Texas when we first got to bring him "home" from the NICU. Those preemie pjs were a little loose on him and now he's growing out of some 0-3m clothing now 😩

What I'm loving...
being home for the summer!!!  I know I only went back to work for 3 weeks, but I missed Harrison so much during those 3 weeks.  He was cared for by our family, so I know he was in great hands--but I still missed him.

What we've been up to...
A little time at the ball field with friends watching Daddy play softball

Going to school with Mom on her last day

Then visiting Babs in her classroom!

We went out to eat one night and a band was setting up to play...both are people watchers, apparently haha!

We're taking walks (and trying to stay cool!)

And taking naps!

What I'm dreading...
Just dealing with the heat.  It's already been so hot in May that I dread the rest of the summer

What I'm working on...
Trying to figure out a consistent workout schedule??

What I'm excited about...
Creating our own schedule for the summer

What I'm watching/reading...
I'm watching lots of Hallmark and reality tv and reading this book for my book club meeting in June!!

What I'm listening to...
A new podcast!!!  I don't know how I came across it, but I've started to listen to The Nash Chat.  The host has had guests from Southern Living, the etiquette person from The Plaza Hotel, and others on her podcast and I've really enjoyed it!

What I'm wearing...
Nothing fancy around here these days--
Either something casual like these shorts (my fave!!) and a t-shirt (this one if from college ha)

or something that is still comfy but looks nice.  A basic (but not so basic) white button downfavorite jeans (ON SALE!!!), and favorite sandals.  I had always heard people say these sandals were so comfortable and then I got a pair and realized they really are!

What I'm doing this weekend...
Dustin and I have a date night Friday night, nothing planned right now for Saturday, and family pictures Sunday after church.

What I'm looking forward to next month...
Basically the same as what I've been enjoying right now--my own schedule and time with Harrison

What else is new...
Nothing?  I know that's not exciting but it's life right now haha!

Harrison is THREE Months Old!!

Tuesday, May 28, 2019

Yesterday Harrison turned THREE MONTHS OLD!!!  I cannot believe that we've been parents for just three months.  Sometimes I feel like he's always been in our lives.

Harrison really is the best baby.  Dustin and I are pretty laid back people and Harrison is turning out to be the most chill baby 😊

He loves...
-holding his head up and looking around
-ceiling fans and light fixtures (still)
-being held in a position where he can see everything
-trying to "talk" to us

He doesn't love...
-having anything rubbed on his face
-not having anyone to look at in a room
-lotion on his body

I am so looking forward to having the whole summer off with Harrison.  His little personality is developing more and more each day, and it's so much fun to watch.  Dustin and I are so enthralled with everything he does!!

Here are a few pictures from his third month of life 😃

Friday Faves!

Friday, May 24, 2019

Hey y'all!

I feel like it's been FOREVER since I've blogged or read/commented on blogs.  I know it's just the season I'm in, but I'm hoping this summer gives me A LOT more free time to keep this hobby up because I love it!  I have ideas for the blog randomly run through my head--I just miss it!

Today at 3 o'clock begins summer break for me, and with that, I have lots of FAVORITES for y'all today!  (Summer break being one of them ha!)

Dustin plays on our church's men's softball team and his games are every Tuesday night.  They've usually been at 7:30 or 8:30pm and that's too late for us to be out, so Harrison hasn't gotten to see his daddy play.  But this week, they played at 6:30 and Harrison and I swung by to cheer Daddy on for a little bit before going home and starting his bedtime routine.  My friend Emily's husband got called in to fill an extra spot, so her little girl Anna had fun "playing" with Harrison--it was so cute!  Our stroller is here (best purchase ever!!) and my favorite baby items post is here if you're expecting or need ideas!

Wednesday was the last day with students, so I wore my most Meghan-esque ensemble to school.  This white button down, favorite jeans (ON SALE!!!), and favorite sandals were the most comfortable thing to wear to school that day.

Harrison has started grabbing things with his little hands--my shirts, his blanket or outfit, etc.  It's the sweetest thing.  I cannot wait to be home with him every day this summer.

I bought these footed pajamas while we were still waiting to be matched, and it's so special to see my baby wearing these jammies that I was so hopeful when buying.  Cannot get over the Sophie the Giraffe print!

Harrison is now on week 3 of being woken up early for me to feed him so I can get ready on time before leaving for school.  One particular morning this week was rough for him.  He wasn't his normally smiley self in the morning and barely stayed awake for his bottle.  I always put him on his boppy on my bed while I'm getting ready in the bathroom, and at one point, I checked on him and saw this.  Poor baby was exhausted!  He actually napped that morning from 5:40-7:20, so I know he was exhausted because he never sleeps that long in the morning!

Okay, this last thing isn't a FAVORITE but a QUESTION!!  I've been thinking lately about how I should be taking vitamins.  I used to take a ton when I was going through fertility treatments, but after my miscarriage, I went quit taking any and all medicine because I was so tired of it (I took a lot).  Now I'm realizing I probably could be benefiting from taking vitamins.  My question is this--what type of vitamins should a 31 year old woman be taking? I could probably go back to taking a prenatal with iron since that's what I was taking before and it does have a lot in it.  I also used to take Vitamin D3 and CoQ10--I know the CoQ10 isn't needed now, but maybe the Vitamin D3 is?  Or B12?

Have a happy Memorial Day weekend!!

Friday Faves!

Friday, May 17, 2019

Alright y'all, it's my last Friday with my students!  I technically have all week next week but they only have through Wednesday.  I'm counting down the days until I'm home with Harrison all the time.

Last week was my first week back to school.  Let me tell y'all--it was an adjustment going back to work and having a baby.  But now I'm back to blogging some and I'm excited to share from FAVORITES!

I am so embarrassed to admit that it has taken me forever to get into watching The Crown.  I started right after season 1 came out (or when season 2 started??) and then it took me about 3 attempts to watch episodes 1 and 2 before finally pushing through.  I'm now on episode 10 of season 1, and I'll pick back up after school is out next week.

Okay, this should have been my number 1 FAVORITE!  I was in 3rd period last Wednesday when my phone started blowing up with everyone texting me about revealing the baby's name!  I LOVED it!  I am now forever connected to Meghan and Harry because of our babies 😜😂

Mom life: super exhausted and hadn't washed my hair in almost a week.  I've shared this before, but this eye cream gets me though the day!

I also bought this tinted moisturizer to try this summer so I can look more put together without wearing makeup.

And now to leave you with cute Harrison pictures!

Happy weekend, y'all!

Simple Joys no. 2

Wednesday, May 15, 2019

Happy Wednesday!  I'm back today with my second installment of Simple Joys.  If you missed the first post, catch up here.

I loved reading everyone else's simple joys last time, so don't forget to leave yours in the comments!

-Soaking in a bathtub using this oil.  We have a huge soaking tub so I use maybe 10 drops, and I come out feeling so clean and smelling extremely calm 😜

-The smell of fresh cut grass when it finally starts to become warm outside.  It's like if hope had a smell it would be fresh cut grass because it means spring is coming.

-Getting new lipstick.  I'm currently looking at this lipstick online (shade syrup) and will look at it in person next time I'm at the mall.

-Quiet mornings

-When a song I like comes on the radio

What are some of your simple joys?

My First Mother's Day

Monday, May 13, 2019

I celebrated my first Mother's Day yesterday with Harrison and Dustin.  Dustin got up with Harrison and let me sleep in, and both boys came to wake me up to open my presents before getting ready for church.  Yesterday was a day that I had been longing to celebrate for myself since 2015.

Yesterday was also a day of lots of emotions coexisting within me.  I was thrilled to finally be able to celebrate Mother's Day because being a mother to Harrison is really just a dream.  He's an amazing baby and I am so enamored with him.  But it wasn't without the selfless gift of another woman that made my day of celebration possible.  While I celebrated, she may have been experiencing sadness.

My heart goes out to the women who long to be mothers who had a difficult time yesterday going to church or scrolling through social media.  I've been there and I know how sad a day like yesterday can be.  If that's you, please email me because I would love to pray for you and encourage you.  I also recommend the book Longing for Motherhood.  It helped me tremendously processing my emotions.

Now that I'm on the other side, I understand why we struggled with infertility because the Lord had us waiting on Harrison--who is the perfect addition to our family :)

He's always looking at a ceiling fan.

Real life: I wanted pictures, but Harrison was hungry.  So we fed him first and the pictures followed haha!
