What's Up Wednesday!

Wednesday, October 31, 2018

Hey hey!!!  Today is the last Wednesday of the month and it also happens to be not only Halloween, but also Reformation Day!  So if you're Protestant,  you can thank Martin Luther for nailing those 95 theses on the church door 501 years ago today!

What we're eating this week...
I made Shay's French onion soup and it was fabulous!!  I made a sheet pan meal last night with chicken, broccoli, and cauliflower.  Tonight we're eating leftovers and tomorrow night I'll make turkey burgers.

What I'm reminiscing about...

What I'm loving...
I've mentioned this brush before, but I can't get over how much I love it.  I have really thick hair, and this brushes easily through both wet and dry hair.  I love it so much I finally threw away my brush from high school haha!!

What we've been up to...
October is always a month of celebrations for us!

Dustin and I celebrated Oktoberfest the first weekend of October and ate really great German food!  We've decided that is going to be a yearly tradition for us and can't wait to bring a baby with us next year!

We had an adoption fundraiser at a local BBQ place!  We made a goal to sell 200 plates and we met that goal!

We also had another fundraiser/social with our ABF class, but we had so much fun that night that I didn't take any pictures!  We've really settled into a great community at our church and have been blown away at how wonderful they've been to us during this adoption process.

We celebrated my sister's birthday on the 10th.  The pictures from that night are on her phone, so Rachel, please send me the picture of us from that night!

Then I got to celebrate my birthday twice!  First, my mom and stepdad cooked me dinner the night before my birthday since they wouldn't be able to make it to my actual birthday dinner.

And on my actual birthday, we celebrated with a low-key night at home with my dad, Rachel, and Nick (and my nephew Stoney!).  Dustin ordered me a cookie cake from Great American (my fave) and had them cover it in icing since that's my favorite part haha!!  We ordered pizza and just hung out since it was raining--it was the perfect way to turn 31.

Dustin and I have a booth at an advent market to raise money for our adoption, so Dustin's family and I started crafting some items to sell at our booth.  These are a few of those items!

What I'm dreading...
Nothing!!!  This is my favorite time of the year!!!

What I'm working on...
Losing weight haha!!!  I hope to have a post about it in January.  And I'm slowly getting back into running shape.  Oh, and the nursery.

What I'm excited about...
I always decorate Veteran's Day weekend, so that's coming up!!!  Eek!

What I'm watching/reading...
We are watching Jack Ryan together and finished episode 6 last night.  It's so good!  I'm also watching...
I watched Christmas at Pemberly Mansion and it was cute!  Jessica Lowndes is one of my favorite Hallmark Channel actresses and she was in that movie.

I'm also watching This Is Us, New Amsterdam, and A Million Little Things...all so good!

This was one of the hundred books I bought this summer at The Gospel Coalition Women's Conference.  I'm almost done reading it, but it's really made me more aware of my complaining and I've worked to be more thankful and grateful in hard seasons.

What I'm listening to...
My current favorite podcasts, Journeywomen and Royally Obsessed, and a little bit of Christmas music!!!

What I'm wearing...
Really nothing new.  In order to save money, I've really cut back on shopping for myself--as in, I haven't bought myself anything in MONTHS.  I was able to buy a few new things with birthday money that I'll share later, so these are the only outfit photos I have from this month.  It's not really fun to take outfit photos when you aren't wearing anything new haha!!

I still love this workout tank (similar) and leggings.

This tunic top and faux leather leggings are perfect for this time of year!  And these are the shoes that a sales lady at Nordstrom asked if they were Gucci 😂😂

I was feeling the Sloan Ranger look on a cold Friday.  It was easy to pair a turtleneck sweater, puffer vest, jeans, and riding boots.

I wore this sweatshirt (that I've had since July) yesterday at school and Dustin said he really liked it since it made me look sporty haha!!  I paired it with these leggings.

What I'm doing this weekend...
I'm helping my sister with a wedding she's shooting on Saturday!

What I'm looking forward to next month...
Being in the holiday spirit!!!!

What else is new...
Not much!

Day in the Life on IG Stories!

Monday, October 29, 2018

I didn't get my act together yesterday to write this blog post (day trip to Nashville and ending the night with watching the World Series), so follow along on my IG stories (@saraheshaneyfelt) today with a Day in the Life!!

I'll be back tomorrow with my weekend recap!

What I'm going to need today 😜

Friday Faves!

Friday, October 26, 2018

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!  I have lots of FAVORITES today because this has been a great week!

Thank you to everyone who wished me happy birthday yesterday!!  Since I had to go to work yesterday, my students sang me happy birthday approximately 500 times and I had a student bring a birthday cake because he and I both had birthdays yesterday!
I always do an ice breaker activity on the first day of school where I make students line themselves up in order of their birthdays without talking, and he and I  figured out on the first day that we had the same birthday.  Well, he never forgot that haha.  It was very sweet!

After school yesterday, I met my sister at the nail salon where she had made us an appointment  She also picked us up coffee to enjoy while we got our nails done.  I sat next to her while she got a pedicure and then she sat next to me while I got a manicure....perfect afternoon!  I will do a post next week about my birthday celebrations!

Yesterday I shared in my birthday post that I am 5'7" and a lot of y'all didn't think I was that tall.  Well, notice how tall Dustin is haha!  One of my first questions when my coworker wanted to set me up on a blind date with him was how tall he was 😂  I still like to wear heels, so I needed someone who was much taller than me and he checked that box off ha!

Hallmark Channel's Countdown to Christmas starts TODAY!!!  They'll be showing all older movies today and the new movie starts tomorrow night and I am so excited!!!

Nordstrom price matched the sweater I've been wanting forever, so I bought it yesterday thanks to some birthday money!!  I also grabbed this sweater in green in hopes that it looks good with both jeans and skirts this Christmas season.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been on a 16 day tour of Australia and surrounding areas, so all of the MM fan IG accounts I follow have been posting all of her looks from the royal tour.  When I woke up one morning and saw this look, I about died--IT'S BEAUTIFUL!!!
There are so many things I love about this look--it's a beautiful shade of blue on her (blue is my fave color), the cape is a gorgeous detail, and I know you can't tell in this picture, but you can see the smallest little baby bump in this dress.  I love how modest this dress is and the fact that it still makes a huge fashion statement!

I hope y'all have a wonderful Friday!!!  I'm getting my hair trimmed and watching Christmas movies after school today 😂😂😂

A Few Facts About Me on My 31st Birthday!

Thursday, October 25, 2018

Happy Birthday to ME!!!!

I turn 31 today so I'm going to be eating my most FAVORITE food ever tonight for supper--pizza!!  Last night we went to my mom and stepdad's house because my mom cooked for me (healthy food minus the cake).  I've been celebrating all week ha!  Today, I thought I'd share a few fun facts about me that you may or may not know!

Last night at my mom's

1. I have a hard time staying up past 9:30-10ish.  I enjoy getting up early and having quiet time to myself instead of staying up late at night.  I've always been that way!

2. I'm very particular about taking care of my hair.

3. I'm 5'7"

4. I played softball growing up (mostly first base) and quit in junior high because I wanted to focus on my grades.

5. Speaking of, I was so obsessed with my grades in high school and becoming the valedictorian.  My mom begged me to make a B.  (And sadly, I didn't graduate valedictorian, but I did graduate with over a 4.0, and now as an adult, I know that means absolutely nothing!) #nerd

6. I'm very particular about how my bedding is when I sleep.  The sheet has to be perfectly aligned with the comforter.

7. My eyes change from blue to green.

8. I know lots of music trivia, and I love playing all kinds of trivia!

9. I'm such a rule follower, but my senior year of high school, I got brave and started skipping school at lunch to run and grab fast food.  I was always terrified I would get caught school was pretty strict!

10. I prefer sweets over salty.

11. I have the highest pain tolerance ever.

12. I am pretty spontaneous when traveling whereas Dustin is a planner.  After college graduation, my bff and I randomly bought plane tickets to DC and went on vacation without planning a single thing.  It was the best trip, and one I couldn't see Dustin being able to handle haha!

And a few things on my wishlist....
-This sweater
-These shoes (in brown)
-And these shoes
-These leggings

Weekend Review: The One Where I Took Zero Pictures

Monday, October 22, 2018

Happy Monday, y'all!  I'm up early Monday morning writing this and it feels more like winter than fall with the 33 degree temp right now!  This weekend was a fun one, but I didn't take hardly any pictures--I guess subconsciously I decided to live in the moment instead of having my phone out the whole time.

We'll start with Thursday since that was the start of the weekend when I was in college...😂
It was cool on Thursday so I was really excited to get to wear my Spanx leggings to school! They are really comfortable yet stylish.  Obviously I have to wear a longer top with them to school so this tunic top is perfect!  It comes in a lot of other colors, but I like the black with this outfit.

Friday night we kicked off my birthday week celebration by going to eat at one of my favorite restaurant's in Birmingham, Little Donkey.  I like to refer to it as hipster Mexican food haha!  This restaurant is owned by the same people who own Jim N Nick's BBQ so the meat is all cooked the same way and everything is fresh.  I decided to order something other than my usual tacos or salad and got a chicken quesadilla--it was great!  I also got the Mexican street corn but this time I had them cut it off the cob so I didn't get corn all over my face--the best!!

Then we headed over to The Summit to walk around and do some window shopping.  I also have some money saved up from the blog that I still haven't spent yet (surprisingly 😜).  But Dustin's insulin pump started malfunctioning and wouldn't deliver his insulin--obviously not good.  That caused us to scrap the rest of our plans--which included going to The Cheesecake Factory for dessert--and instead I ran in to grab myself a slice of cheesecake to eat on the way home.  Thankfully once we got home and he changed out his port, his machine was able to deliver insulin.  I hate diabetes.

I slept in until almost 7:30 Saturday morning and did a little reading in this book.  Remember when I went to The Gospel Coalition Women's Conference back in June?  They had the biggest book store there, and both Janie and I spent about $100 on books--we just couldn't help it! LOL  I've been slowly making my way through my stack of books, so this is my book that I'm reading currently.  I'm going to do a review about it because I've pretty much told everyone I've come in contact with to buy this book because it's that good--good in that I've been extremely convicted in how I really am ungrateful and encouraged to show more gratitude in the hard the one I'm in now haha.

Our Adult Bible Fellowship class (just like Sunday School class) at our church threw us an adoption fundraiser social Saturday night at one of our leader's home.  It was such a fun night!!  We ate really good food (click here for the cookie recipe), the ladies played Bunco, and there was a money tree and dessert silent auction with all money going towards helping to bring our sweet baby home!!  Dustin and I were talking about how it's been a little over a year since we officially became members at our church and I thank God for giving us such a good community to be part of.

Sunday I took zero pictures but it was a pretty average Sunday.  We went to church and I didn't get my act together in time to order my groceries online Saturday for Sunday pick up, so I actually went to Walmart after church (never again).  Dustin and I cleaned up the house, I made taco soup, and we watched another episode of Jack Ryan together.  We ended the night with him watching Yard Crashers and me watching The Office--see how different we are 😜

My First Time Experience With Hydrafacial at Silver Stone Salon Spa

Wednesday, October 17, 2018

I am always looking for ways to improve my skin.  I battle with the monthly break out, have an oily t-zone, and have sun damage from the years when I didn't care about using sunscreen.  Ugh, I cringe just thinking about how ignorant I was.

Now that I'm 30--and soon to be 31 🙈--I realize that the face I have is the only face I will ever have so I better take care of it because I'm not getting another one!

When I found out that my local salon, Silver Stone, was starting to offer hydrafacials, I was so intrigued and excited to try a new facial technique to help my skin look bright and youthful.  If you've never had a hydrafacial or if you've never heard of it, then you will want to get one ASAP because after my experience, I'm hooked!

This was everything that came out of my skin after the facial!

I wasn't sure what to expect so I'm really excited to be able to explain it to all of y'all!  And I know that you're going to want to go get one as soon as you make it through this post!  PS...If you're local, stick around until the end because there's something awesome for you!

These were the steps of my facial:
1. Lymphatic drainage--this was done using suction and I could really tell a difference when she was doing it over my sinus cavities above and below my eyes and it's like the pressure I was feeling was lessened greatly after that.

2. Exfoliation--this was done using one of exfoliating tips on the wand

3. Peel--this was done using another tip on the wand.  The peel is not like a chemical peel so it's not going to make your face peel and you don't have to stay out of the sun for days after.

4. Extractions--this was done using another tip on the wand.  Whitney used this in my t-zone which is where a lot of my big pores are and even some black heads.  I felt so clean after this because I knew she had just taken all of the junk out of my skin!

5. Booster--she uses another tip on the hydrafacial wand for this.  I got the Britinol since I struggle with sun spots and overall just needed my skin brighter from discoloration.  She also has a booster she can use for fine lines and wrinkles if you have those.

6. LED light therapy--this was the neatest part and concept to me!  Whitney used the red light on my skin since I have slight redness to my skin.  If you struggle with acne, she can use the blue light, or she can use both!  I felt like this part was extremely relaxing and beneficial to my skin after the tools she used with the other parts of the hydrafacial.

7.Antiox-+--Whitney called this part the "liquid gold" because it's used to help your face look younger!  She used another tip on the hydrafacial wand to apply.  This felt really refreshing on my skin!

8. Daily Essentials--after the main part of your hydrafacial is over, Whiney applied oil free moisturizer, an antiox-+ daily (more liquid gold!), and a sunscreen to my face.

Then I got to look at my face...
Overall, my skin looks so much brighter and youthful looking!

 top: before / bottom: after
I can really tell a difference in the overall brightness of my face and especially around my nose and my forehead!!

top: before / bottom: after
Can you tell how much brighter and youthful my skin looks?  This was after just one facial so imagine what my skin could look like after two?!

I feel like if you really want to take care of your skin and invest in helping your skin to look good, then this facial is for you!

You can really tell a difference on the picture below!  Same back drop, same lighting.  The picture on the left was right after she washed the make up off of my face, and the picture on the right is right after my hydrafacial.

If you're local, Silver Stone is hosting a Signature Hydrafacial Event on October 25th from 3-7PM!  They are releasing their package pricing and on that day only, they are giving an extra % off--which is huge!  They'll have food and drinks and Whitney will be doing facials so you can find out any info about them from her.

You can find them on Facebook here!

Thank you Silver Stone for partnering with me on this post!  As always, all opinions are my own.

Adoption Update!

Tuesday, October 16, 2018

Hey y'all!  It's been a while since I've done an adoption update and we've had a bunch of people ask us where we are in the process, so that's what I'm doing today!

Last night we had our bbq plate fundraiser, and we met our goal of selling 200 plates!  Over half of the people who bought plates from us showed up within the first 30 minutes, so needless to say, the first 30 minutes were crazy--but fun!

We're taking a break on fundraising right now until the end of November/early December.  Then we've got an advent market we're part of and we have a gorgeous quilt my aunts made that we're going to raffle off then, too.  As always, our paypal account is still open for any donations

Our goal is to take out a loan for the least amount of money we possibly can, and we're so incredibly grateful for those of y'all (some of y'all are blog readers that I've never met!!) who have been so kind to us and donated.  Every little bit has truly helped.

Last night at the bbq plate fundraiser!

So where are we now in the process?

We're still waiting to be matched.
We're seeing cases throughout the week but not all of those cases meet our budget.  A lot have been over our budget, so we've had to say no to being presented, and some within our budget didn't meet criteria in another area.

I was so excited to get to this point and finally see these cases, but I wasn't prepared for how difficult it would be.  It's difficult in that I can't say yes to every case we see.  If budget weren't an issue, we'd say yes to a lot more cases!  It's also difficult in that when you finally do say yes and then you hear that the birth mom has chosen someone else, you wonder what it was about you that she didn't like--or at least that's how I felt the first few times we were told no.  Now I understand and know that it's because that baby wasn't in God's plan for our lives, but when emotions are high, it's easy to blame yourself on why you weren't picked.

Please keep praying for us during this process!
-Please pray as we wait and that we can glorify God in the waiting (instead of complaining like I default to sometimes!)
-Pray for discernment as we receive cases weekly
-Pray for the birth mom who will choose us in that she has a peace over her decision and that we're able to share Christ with her if she isn't a Believer
-Pray for our future baby

Friday Faves!

Friday, October 12, 2018

Happy Friday, y'all!  Princess Eugenie got married this morning and they showed the wedding live on TLC.  Anyone else get up to watch it?!  I didn't get up at 3:25 am when it started but I did wake up to see parts of the ceremony.  TLC is replaying it this morning for those of you who want to watch it (and look for Meghan ha!).

I have a few FAVORITES to share with y'all today!

-I've had lots of people ask me about how I curl my hair.  I use this wand and I definitely use the glove that comes with it because it gets extremely hot.  I think the really hot temp keeps my hair curled for days.
-I use this hairspray after I curl my hair on the first day.  Then on following days when I only have to touch up a few pieces, I don't use any or much hairspray.
-With my birthday coming up, I've been thinking about what I want.  I need some new sweaters and I basically love every sweater this brand puts out.

I was off work Monday and Tuesday for fall break (hallelujah!) and since my sister works from home now, we were able to hang out Monday and Tuesday.  We went to an early morning appointment together and she brought her laptop to work on editing pictures while we waited.

My mom was in Michigan because my uncle passed away, so she facetimed us while I drove us home.  Rachel told Mom to smile and she either didn't hear us or was too busy putting on her makeup to be in our picture haha!

Tuesday I got to play photographer and take pictures of Rachel to celebrate her birthday on Wednesday.  I enjoyed us having the same schedule so we could hang out together.

Wednesday night we celebrated Rachel's 27th birthday, and that means that my birthday is about two weeks away!

I know this whole post centers around my sister but I saw her every day this week and that's been a big FAVORITE because we have such a close relationship!

I haven't done a favorite song in a while, but since I went to see A Star Is Born last weekend, I have thought so much about the soundtrack.  I ended up buying this song and have listened to it all week!

Sense of Sarah: What I Eat in a Day

Wednesday, October 10, 2018

I really enjoy posts that allow a peek into a blogger's life.  I find these things so fascinating (as do most of y'all), so I decided to document a day in the life of my meals.  But...

I almost didn't post this today.  This was my third attempt at documenting what I eat in a day.  The first two were school days and I did great for my breakfast and snack, but then once lunch came, I totally forgot to take pictures.  And then when I decided to document yesterday since I was off of school, it was the least normal day eating-wise.  Totally not planned this way, but for the sake of showing you real life, here's what I ate yesterday!

I wake up every morning and have a Spark drink, and yesterday I slept in until 7.  I do this no matter what time I wake up--if it's 5AM or 7AM.  When the morning become cold, I'll start drinking coffee or hot tea, but right now when we still have summer weather, Spark it is!  I love that it's light and refreshing and also gives me energy.

And then here's where my day went wrong in the eating department haha.  I normally wait a few hours before eating breakfast every morning.  It's extremely rare for me to wake up hungry.  Since yesterday was still part of my fall break, I went and took pictures of my sister and we had decided to treat ourselves to a cookie at one of our favorite cookie places.  And then we both felt extremely sick.  I had forgotten that when I'm eating healthy and then I eat something that isn't healthy, it messes with my stomach.
This cookie was good until it wasn't 😂  I ate this at 10:30.

I felt so nauseous after eating that cookie that I went home and took a nap (I also didn't feel good yesterday either).

I woke up from my nap at 2:30 and take a hardboiled egg since I was hungry but it was past lunch time.

Then at 3 I was still hungry so I decided to pop myself some popcorn.  I love flavoring my popcorn with the different salts and yesterday I chose the ranch.

Dinner was at 6 and I made Shay's Pumpkin-Sausage Pasta.  Dustin and I love eating this in the fall.  I change her recipe a bit when I make this and I do add a whole can of pumpkin instead of just a cup, and I use turkey breakfast sausage.

I had Dustin pick up a cold buster drink from Starbucks on his way home from work since I was still feeling terrible and had a sore throat.  I drank it after supper, and I don't know what it is about that drink, but my throat felt so much better!

Okay, so you can see that this is not a typical day for me.  When it's a school day, I eat breakfast, a small snack, lunch, another snack, and then supper.  I will try to do this again maybe next month and make sure that it's going to be a normal day!

Weekend Review!

Monday, October 8, 2018

Happy Monday, y'all!  I'm on fall break today and tomorrow and so I am going to soak it all in....and pretend that it's fall weather ha!

My coworkers wore their adoption shirt on Friday to show support for us!!  I really work with the best people ever!  These people loved and prayed for us during our infertility struggle, and now they are loving and praying for us during our adoption process!

That evening Dustin and I went to Oktoberfest in my mom and stepdad's town.  We had never gone before, but we thought it would be something fun for us to do and it was!!!!  We walked around and checked out some new shops, the classic car show, and then I wanted to get some authentic German food and listen to the Beatles cover band.  (You can see where my priorities were haha!!)  I got the schnitzel and the red cabbage was so good!

 Dustin got the bratwurst....boring 😜

We really had a great time and all I could think about was how next year we'd have a baby with us!!

I went to the mall with one of my friends that afternoon and ran into Dustin's cousin and she happened to have her shirt on!  We had to snap a quick picture!

We went and saw A Star Is Born and it was FANTASTIC!!  The acting was amazing, the soundtrack was amazing, and Bradley Cooper's directing was amazing!  I wasn't prepared for the end and cried a lot 🙈😂  If you go see it, just prepare yourself.  We both felt like the movie was so good and felt so real.

Sunday we had church and then I came home and put on this fabulous outfit 😜  I am a huge fan of comfy clothes when I'm at home.  I got these slippers for Christmas and I wear them every day.  Best purchase ever.

I had a bridal tea to attend that afternoon and when I got home, I saw Dustin "asleep" in his favorite chair.  Except that he wasn't asleep and was trying to play a trick on me haha!  Notice his La Croix next to him.  Once I started drinking them, then he had to start drinking them!

I hope y'all have a great start to your week!!  My sister's birthday is Wednesday and I'm excited about the cake!

Weekend Review: Last One in September!

Tuesday, October 2, 2018

Hey friends!  Sorry for my absence yesterday--Sunday was a busy day (you'll see haha) so I didn't get a chance to do this blog post.

This weekend was really fun!  It was jam-packed but worth it!
Friday night Dustin and I went to the homecoming football game.  It was so crowded!  Because of that, I didn't take a picture of us while we were there, so this is one from when we got home!  We played a team in the class right below us who is ranked #1, and the game went into overtime, but we won!  The weather was perfect that night, too.  There's nothing worse than sitting at a crowded football game in the sweltering heat where everyone is sweating....yuck.

Saturday I finally did the Walmart grocery pick up!  We don't have that in my town yet, but the drive was worth it to not have to go into the grocery store.  I'm sure I'm the last person on earth to do the online pick up haha!

Sunday I went with some ladies from my school to an iced sugar cookie class in Tennessee!  We had the BEST time and I learned so much!

I think they turned out pretty good!!!  I learned that I'm not the best at outlining so that's something I'll have to practice on haha!

And then Sunday night Dustin and I worked on getting the t-shirts that came in this weekend organized so we could get them delivered!!  If you bought one that needed shipping, we shipped it Monday!  My mom came over for an hour to help us and she was a big help!

I didn't go to bed until 11 PM that night--can't you see how tired I am?!  WAY past my bedtime!!
