What's Up Wednesday--May 2017

Wednesday, May 31, 2017

It's the last day of May!  And since it's the last Wednesday of the month, I'm linking up with Shay for What's Up Wednesday!

What we're eating this week...
I made quinoa fried rice Sunday night.  We've been eating on burgers Dustin grilled Monday night, and last night I was craving pizza so we got a $5 one from Little Caesar's which I regretted after I finished eating it.  Whole30, I'm coming for ya!

What I'm reminiscing about...
I'm not really reminiscing about anything--I'm glad it's finally summer break!

What I'm loving...
The fact that I'm out of school for the summer!  When people find out I'm a teacher, they usually make a remark about wishing they got summers off and how easy my job is.  Please.  If you were with 12-13 year olds all day every day, you'd need a mental break, too.

What we've been up to...
 Switching up my workouts

My mom and I both work for the same school system, and on the last day of the school year, the entire system comes together to celebrate teachers.  I love being able to see my mom whenever our entire system gathers together!

I went to the Southern Living Store that opened near me last weekend!!!!

I tried pilates yesterday morning with two other teachers.  It was interesting, and I'll be writing about it soon!

I loving being out of school and being able to enjoy a morning coffee at my favorite downtown coffee shop!  I got the turtle mocha with SF caramel syrup--it was a wonderful treat!

What I'm dreading...
Not a single thing!!

What I'm working on...
Janie and I are working through Giddy Up, Eunice together, so we've got a phone call today to discuss the section on Mary and Elizabeth.  I highly recommend this book and will recap it at the end of June!

What I'm excited about...
Our upcoming beach trip!!

What I'm watching/reading...
I blogged yesterday about the RHONY and I'm also watching Southern Charm (both), the Kardashians, Friday Night Lights, The Office, Second Wives Club, and everything on the Hallmark Channel!!

Reading:  Here's my latest book review and I just started a Joshilyn Jackson book along with Giddy Up, Eunice.

What I'm listening to...
The Big Boo Cast podcast along with two other podcasts: The Gospel Coalition and Theocast.  I'm also listening to the latest John Mayer album on repeat!!

What I'm wearing...
I'm obsessed with this shirt and pants (both on sale!!!!)

This is my favorite workout shirt and I own it in 2 colors!

This was my pilates outfit for yesterday--the tights are ones I've had for 2 years but they are such a classic at Athleta!

I bought this tank last year from Loft, but this is their new style from this summer.  I feel like I need to go buy it now!

What I'm doing this weekend...
Spending time with family!

What I'm looking forward to next month...
June is going to be an interesting month for us!  Aside from the things we've got planned, I also plan on reading a lot and watching lots of The Office!

What else is new...

Two on Tuesday: Real Housewives of New York City

Tuesday, May 30, 2017

Happy Tuesday, friends!  Today finally feels like the first day of summer break for me even though I guess Saturday technically was.  But I'm always off every weekend and yesterday was a holiday, so today feels like the first day I really don't have to go to work.  And what will I be doing today?  Working out and prepping for our beach trip!

In trying to brainstorm ideas for my blog, I decided to try a new series for Tuesday where I'll share two things I love--it could be specific or just random.  This could also work as a link up, so let me know if you would be interested in doing it as a link up...maybe monthly?

I love watching the Real Housewives franchise, and since the New York series is currently on, I want to share two of the ladies that I find interesting/like.

Bethenny Frankel
I am loving Bethenny's short hair this season.  I like it much better this season than I do last season--so weird I know, but I really notice people's hair.  And can we talk about Bethenny's latest venture into real estate?  The last episode showed her getting ready to sell her current apartment since she bought a newer and much bigger apartment in SoHo.  I can't wait to see how she decorates it 😀

Tinsley Mortimer
Tinsley is the new girl this season, and while she's stuck being tied to Sonja, I'm hoping she'll make a name for herself later on in the season.  While I was looking up a good picture of her, I came across her age--41!  I honestly thought she was 25 (and I think she acts that way, too).  She's famous for being a socialite who was arrested after a bad relationship, so I'm sure she's on the show to clean up her image.  All in all, I like her and I hope she's a likable person this season.

A Little Life Lately

Wednesday, May 24, 2017

Hi friends!  I cannot believe today is the last day with students for this school year.  Exams started yesterday and finish today.  Teachers finish up Friday and then that's it for the school year!  It really now feels like it's gone by fast (even though there were some weeks that felt like they drug on 😜)

Since I didn't blog any last week, I've got two whole weeks of a little life lately to share with y'all!
My little sister and I spent one afternoon together shopping.  She wanted a half up top knot so I did the best I could with her thin, fine hair 😂  I used to fix her hair when she was in elementary school for her school pictures and sometimes for regular school days.  I wish she would share her 4th grade picture where I curled random pieces of hair and she wore her Mary Kate and Ashley clothes 😂😂 Maybe another blog post!

Speaking of hair, I used a wand on mine for the first time since I felt like it was finally long enough.  We also enjoyed a yummy lunch of PF Chang's to fuel ourselves for shopping!

I love this romper (under $100 right now!) so, so much, but sadly it didn't fit well in my chest and the next size up was ginormous on me.  It looks so cute in person and the back is cut out.  I love it so much that I want everyone to go and try it on!

I had been dying to get my hands on this Lilly dress for a while.  Apparently it's sold out everywhere in my size (trust me, I've looked everywhere).  In this picture, I'm squeezing into a size 6 and really need a size 10 for my chest.

Then I tried this dress on because I love the color, but I honestly don't have a need for something like this right now.  I had zero luck shopping with my sister that day and she had great luck because she bought the cutest Lilly romper!

Mother's Day lunch with my mother-in-law and her two boys

Matching in our blue and sunnies (mine)!

We did supper with my mom and sister that night

Please excuse my outfit 🙈
I didn't think about taking pictures and had taken a nap that afternoon

This makes me so happy!!

I was having a rough morning and my teacher partner brought me coffee from my favorite coffee shop downtown!  And the next picture explains why we're the perfect partner teachers...

Because we randomly showed up dressed alike one day--curled hair, chambray dress (similar), sandals!

Dustin and I had a date night to our favorite local brewery last weekend.  I ordered
healthy-ish with my salad.  It was massive!  It was topped with veggies and the salad was underneath AND there wasn't any cheese so actually it's healthier than I thought.  I don't even know if I even ate half of my salad.

Date night with my love

When you get to church early because your husband loves drinking the coffee at church.  Yep, that's us.

I'm planning on starting Whole30 this summer, so I've tried some of Whole30 approved recipes out.  I made this lemon dill baked salmon with a lemon caper aioli and it was really good!  I also learned that when I buy salmon from the seafood department, I need them to cut mine much smaller!  I ate almost half of this portion.

I picked up the cutest PJ top and bottom while Dustin and I were out on our date night.  The fabric is so soft and almost feels like silk!  The cashier said they wash well, too, so I'm loving them.

So there you have it....a little life lately!

My Favorite Homemade Flavored Water

Tuesday, May 23, 2017

I don't know about y'all, but I really love water.  I drink water all day long and for every meal. I make it a goal to drink as much water as I can each and every single day.  But once summertime hits, I sometimes want a little flavor with my water.  I'm not into buying flavored water (sometimes loaded with added sugar), so I always make my own--cheaper and healthier!

Here are a few of my favorite water combos:
(You can tell I'm a citrus lover!)

Do you have any favorite flavored water combinations that I haven't tried yet?

Friday Favorites: Short and Sweet!

Friday, May 12, 2017

Happy Friday, friends!  As I write this, I only have one more Friday after today left with students for this school year!  I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Today I'm linking up with a few bloggers to share my favorite things!

Yesterday I shared my make up must haves and totally forgot to mention my blush and highlighter??  I don't know what I was thinking because my face isn't finished until I put both of those on at the end.

I snapped this of us before we went into church on Sunday.  We have been visiting a new church and absolutely love it, so I can't wait to join!
This is also what my finished make up looks like 😀

You know it's the end of the school year when you don't even bother to make and eat your breakfast at home because you'd rather sleep a little extra.  Yesterday I whipped out my jar of peanut butter that I had thrown in my school bag and put a little on top of my Ezekiel toast for my breakfast.  Two weeks, y'all....two weeks.

I absolutely LOVE Hallmark movies!  I have a few recorded from when they show new ones on Saturday nights and I started watching one the other night.  I know this sounds completely crazy right now, but I love their Christmas in July tradition 🙈  I have no issue with watching Christmas movies before Christmas season!

Short and sweet for today!  I hope y'all have a great weekend!  We have such a busy weekend starting with Relay for Life tonight in my town!

My Make Up Must Haves

Thursday, May 11, 2017

Hey y'all!  I am really really REALLY excited about today's link up prompt!  I'm linking up with my friend Emily for her monthly Girl Chat linkup all about our favorite make up.

Fun fact about me--I am obsessed with make up!  I think it's so fun to play around with and try new products.  Sephora is obviously my favorite store and I could spend hundreds of dollars (as in, you should see how many points I have ha).

The only favorite make up products that I didn't include in the graphic are my sunscreen and lipsticks.  I have tons of lipsticks, so it really just depends on what my outfit is that day!  You'll also notice that I use both high end products and drugstore products.  (And I forgot to add pictures of my blush and highlighter, but I use these everyday.)

1. Almay mascara: I'm all for cheap mascara.  I don't think I could spend $20+ on mascara since I replace mine every month.  Almay for the win!

2. CoverFx primer: This is perfect for my oily t-zone.  I use just a little on my t-zone every morning and it keeps my face from being oily all day!  I tried lots and lots of primers until I found this one that worked and didn't break me out.

3. Naked palette: Neutrals all the way for my blue eyes!

4. Nars concealer in vanilla: I put this on after my foundation, and I put it under my eyes, down my nose, and a triangle in the middle of my forehead.  Then I use a damp beauty blender to blend it in.

5. Tarte bronzer:  Y'all--this stuff is the best!!  It's waterproof so I can work out after school and my make up still look great.

6. Mary Kay eye primer:  This stuff is super cheap and lasts me almost an entire year.  I put this over my eyelids before I put on my eye shadow.  It keeps my eye shadow on so well that it even stays on after swimming all day.

7. Nars foundation:  This is a recent purchase and I'm really enjoying it so far.  It's really lightweight but offers lots of coverage and stays on all day  (except the tip of my nose??  Anyone know how I can fix that?)  I was using Make Up Forever Ultra HD and liked it, but it was really creamy and heavy, so I feel like that's a better cold weather foundation.

8. Laura Mercier transluscent powder:  My favorite make up product!!!  This goes over my concealer (using a wet beauty blender--trust me on that) and it keeps my make up looking flawless all day long.  I also put this on my chin since that's an oily area for me.

9. Almay eye brow pencil: I am all about coloring in my eye brows.  I believe that eye brows frame the face, and it looks so much better when someone has defined brows.  I use this because it's pretty cheap but I'm dying to use something from Anastasia at some point!

Because I love make up so much, I want to know--is there something you use that I should try?

My Favorite Fashion Bloggers

Wednesday, May 10, 2017

I don't think I know of anyone who doesn't have a fashion blogger that they follow and love.  You don't even need your own blog to follow fashion bloggers because now they are all over Instagram!  Isn't is crazy to think that a fashion blogger "job" didn't exist 10 years ago?!  So many of these fashion bloggers that I'm going to share with you today have their blog as their full time job.  Wouldn't that be so nice?!

Here's what I love most about Torey--her blog posts aren't only about the clothes with just a little bit of writing thrown in...her blog posts actually have content along with the pictures.  Fitness and a healthy lifestyle are her passions, so I really enjoy reading these.  She's also a 2nd grade teacher!

I basically follow Caitlin because she's so pretty 😂  She has gorgeous hair and seems to be really sweet in person.  She just got engaged so I can't wait to follow along as she plans her wedding!

Krista is a Kentucky grad living in NYC and everything she wears I want.  She's got a cute, preppy style where most of the clothes are really reasonable.  I also really appreciate that she isn't stick thin--she's a 6/8, so I can see how clothes would look on me based on how they look on her.  I enjoy watching her IG stories, too, because she's real and you get a peak into big city life.

Brittany is so cute!  I love that all of her clothes are really affordable, too, and so easy to recreate.  You've got to watch her IG stories, though, because they are hilarious!!  One of my friends and I love talking about her IG stories--like the time she did a make up tutorial and was so real about it.  Read her blog, but watch her IG stories more haha!

Emily is a blogger that I follow mainly because I'm so curious about her life.  Like how does she have such a nice house when her husband is just in his residency?  She just had a baby boy so I'm interested to see how mom life is for her.  She has really great hair, too!

April 2017 Reads

Monday, May 8, 2017

I read some really good books in April, and all three books were so very different.  I sometimes go through reading slumps where I won't read anything for a week or two and then I sometimes find books where I cannot put them down.  I read one of those books in April, and it was one that I wasn't expecting to like!

To see my past book reviews, click here!

"Amsterdam, 1943. Hanneke spends her days procuring and delivering sought-after black market goods to paying customers, her nights hiding the true nature of her work from her concerned parents, and every waking moment mourning her boyfriend, who was killed on the Dutch front lines when the Germans invaded. She likes to think of her illegal work as a small act of rebellion.

On a routine delivery, a client asks Hanneke for help. Expecting to hear that Mrs. Janssen wants meat or kerosene, Hanneke is shocked by the older woman's frantic plea to find a  person-a Jewish teenager Mrs. Janssen had been hiding, who has vanished without a trace from a secret room. Hanneke initially wants nothing to do with such dangerous work, but is ultimately drawn into a web of mysteries and stunning revelations that lead her into the heart of the resistance, open her eyes to the horrors of the Nazi war machine, and compel her to take desperate action."

This is the book that I could not put down!  It's different than any other Holocaust book I've read in that the narrator is not Jewish, so it's a very interesting point of view.  Her life is affected by what Hitler is doing in Poland, but the reader gets a peak into what life was like for the non-Jew during WWII.  This is a young adult novel, but everyone will love it no matter your age!

"At the turn of the twentieth century, in a rural stretch of the Pacific Northwest, a reclusive orchardist, William Talmadge, tends to apples and apricots as if they were loved ones. A gentle man, he's found solace in the sweetness of the fruit he grows and the quiet, beating heart of the land he cultivates. One day, two teenage girls appear and steal his fruit at the market; they later return to the outskirts of his orchard to see the man who gave them no chase.
Feral, scared, and very pregnant, the girls take up on Talmadge's land and indulge in his deep reservoir of compassion. Just as the girls begin to trust him, men arrive in the orchard with guns, and the shattering tragedy that follows will set Talmadge on an irrevocable course not only to save and protect them but also to reconcile the ghosts of his own troubled past.
Transcribing America as it once was before railways and roads connected its corners, Amanda Coplin weaves a tapestry of solitary souls who come together in the wake of unspeakable cruelty and misfortune. She writes with breathtaking precision and empathy, and in The Orchardist she crafts an astonishing debut novel about a man who disrupts the lonely harmony of an ordered life when he opens his heart and lets the world in."

This novel was a little heavier and sad to me.  The main character, Talmadge, is lovable and so my heart hurt when I felt like he wasn't treated fairly.  This book is pretty thick, so keep that in mind.  Overall, I enjoyed it but it wasn't my favorite this month  (see above ha).

"Four lives knit together…
There's a little yarn store in Seattle called A Good Yarn. It's owned by Lydia Hoffman, and it represents her dream of a new beginning, a life free from cancer. A life that offers a chance at love…
Lydia teaches knitting to beginners, and the first class is How to Make a Baby Blanket. Three women join. Jacqueline Donovan disapproves of the woman married to her only son, but knitting a baby blanket would be a gesture of reconciliation.
For Carol Girard, the baby blanket brings a message of hope as she and her husband make a final attempt to conceive.
And tough-looking Alix Townsend (that's Alix with an i) is learning to knit her blanket for a court-ordered community service project.
These four very different women, brought together by the age-old craft of knitting, make unexpected discoveries—about themselves and each other. Discoveries that lead to friendship and acceptance, to laughter and dreams. Discoveries only women can share…"

This was Emily's recommendation to me, and although it took me a while to get into the book, I found myself rooting for all of the characters in very different ways.  I found myself really drawn to each character in a different way.  Each chapter is told from a different character's point of view, and I really enjoy books that do that!  This book is part of a really large series.

Friday Favs!

Friday, May 5, 2017

First of all, Happy Cinco de Mayo to all of you planning to celebrate tonight 😜

Friday is always my favorite post day of the week.  I love seeing y'all's favorite things because sometimes those things become some of my favorite things!

If you watched any of my IG stories Wednesday afternoon (@saraheshaneyfelt), you saw where I am looking for jean shorts for this summer.  Not wanting jeans shorts that make me look frumpy but also not wanting jean shorts that a 21 year old would wear.  Being 29 is a hard age to dress because you don't want to look too old but also you definitely don't want to look like you're still trying to be a college kid again.

Here are a few I've found--tell me which is your favorite!  (and which one is age-appropriate)

For those of y'all who love Southern Charm as much as I do, it was really exciting to see Cameron's pregnancy announcement!  I hope this plays out in the show.  And speaking of Southern Charm, anyone else going to watch Southern Charm: Savannah Monday night?  The people look crazy, but Savannah and Tybee were where we honeymooned so I'm hoping to see some of the places we went.

Monday I posted all about Matilda Jane's May release and this top is my favorite!  I can't wait for it to come in so I can start wearing it.  So cute!  (Also the best white jeans I've ever worn)

One of my goals for April was to buy curtains for the dining room (I mean, it's not like we've lived in our home for almost 2 years or anything 🙈🙈)  I had been eyeing these curtains since we bought the table and once I saw them on sale for a price I was willing to pay, I ordered them.

The lighting isn't the greatest in this room but I love these curtains so much!  I can't wait to start (slowly) buying artwork for the walls and finishing the room up.

I love that we live so close to our town's park.  And I love that so many people in my city use it--every morning and afternoon that I drive by it going to and from school, I am constantly seeing so many people either using the track or playing disc golf or hanging in a bunch of enos.

This weather is also perfect for dining al fresco...a huge favorite for me!
