Rosemary Beach 2018

Monday, July 30, 2018

Hey y'all!  Today I'm so excited to share about our recent vacation to Rosemary Beach...for those of you who don't know, Rosemary Beach is on the infamous Highway 30A which is the same highway that Seaside is on.  Rosemary was literally heaven on earth!

A few things before you read:
1. This post is very photo heavy!
2. Because I've already had mean comments about fundraising and just want to clarify...this trip was paid for BEFORE deciding to adopt and even before we got pregnant.  So no, our money that we are fundraising for adoption has had nothing to do with our trip at all 😊
3. Rosemary Beach is very family-friendly so I would recommend everyone to go!  We talked constantly about what it would be like going back to Rosemary with a baby!

First I wanted to show you a tour of our house!  I used VRBO for the first time and lucked up on this place!!
 The living room

Full-size kitchen!  Notice the ceiling--every room had a vaulted, shiplap ceiling with an amazing light fixture.

I wish I would have turned on the overhead light for you to see this better but the bedroom was gorgeous!

The bathroom!  I didn't get a picture of the shower but it was a gorgeous tiled shower.

Day One:
Everyone bikes in Rosemary since most people don't stay on the beach, so this is the green where we all biked to, parked on, and walked down the stairs to the beach.  We loved it!!

We got to the beach that afternoon and ended up sitting through a pretty hard rainstorm.  Dustin snapped this of me because I was having to protect myself from the huge rain drops--they were cold and hurt!

We walked to Cowgirl Kitchen for supper (I didn't talk any pictures because I forgot!).  It was so, so good!  I got the bbq chicken taco salad and it was wonderful.  Then we changed clothes and biked around town.  We made sure to make it to the 7pm concert on one of the greens because it was a Beach Boys cover band!

Day Two:
We got up early and biked to a coffee shop we saw downtown the day before, AmaVida.  It was the best tasting coffee, so we made sure to grab a latte every day we were there haha! We ate breakfast outside while people watching.

The storm the day before stirred up stuff in the ocean, so this was the only day that it wasn't crystal clear.

We are staying at this hotel next time!

I had made reservations a few weeks ago for dinner Tuesday night at Paradis.  We walked to dinner--I loved being close enough to walk everywhere!  Paradis had the most amazing focaccia bread ever!  I could have eaten only that as my meal.

Funny thing about me....I do NOT like seafood.  So while we're eating at lots of seafood restaurants, I always order something else.
I had a spinach salad for dinner.

Dustin had some lobster encrusted grouper with lump crab meat and shrimp??  Looks gross to me 😜

I can't remember if it's Seacrest or Seagrove that is right next to Rosemary?? so after dinner, we walked to a cupcake shop for dessert.  I had dessert every day while we were on vacation.  #noregrets

That town had it's own cute little set up.

Day Three:
my tank is part of the NSale but sold out!
This was Dustin's birthday!!!  He wanted donuts from Seaside, so we both got up early and while he drove over to Seaside to pick up donuts, I went out for a run.  Then I met him downtown at AmaVida where we both got a latte and sat on a bench in the green to enjoy our breakfast.

You cannot go wrong with Five Daughters--either in Nashville or Seaside!

This is where we enjoyed breakfast that morning!

We love the beach!!!  And we both got a little burnt from the day before...

This is what we looked like biking to and from the beach every day haha!

We went to Seaside for dinner that night.  Bud & Alley's was recommended to me and it was not my favorite.  Now Dustin will tell you he liked it, but I didn't.

It could also be because I tried to branch out and make myself like seafood by ordering grilled grouper, but nope, not a seafood lover.

Then we changed clothes and biked around Rosemary a little more that night!

Day Four:
This was our four year anniversary!!

We biked to breakfast again this morning at Grits & Grind.  I had the veggie scramble and it was delish!

 All the heart eyes!

Dinner that night was at George's in Alys Beach and IT WAS SO GOOD!!!  I had the Mexican street corn salad--which looks weird but I loved it.

Dustin got the spicy salt and pepper shrimp and he loved it!

Happy four years to us!!  And happy because we had some really amazing key lime pie for dessert!!!

We went back to AmaVida that night because we were obsessed!

Day Five:
Sadly, this was the day we had to leave.  We stopped at Fonville Press for coffee in Alys Beach because I saw Mallory Ervin talk about it a lot on her vacation to 30A back in June, but it wasn't my favorite!

I got the bacon and veggie cast iron egg scramble and like I said, it wasn't my favorite.

We had THE BEST time ever while at the beach and also realized it was going to be our last trip just the two of us!!

Friday Faves!

Friday, July 27, 2018

Happy Friday!!  This has been the BEST WEEK EVER because we've been at the beach for vacation!  I wrote about this on social media earlier this week, but when I booked our trip to Rosemary Beach in February, I had just gone through my second surgery for endometriosis.  I had no idea what was in store for us in the months to follow, but all I knew at that moment was that we (or really, me) needed an escape badly.  So this week at the beach has been heavenly, but once we get back home, we've got to knock out more adoption paperwork because I start back to school Thursday! 🙈

And if you feel called to donate, you can go through PayPal at paypal.me/DustinShaneyfelt

As usual, I'm sharing a few of my FAVORITE things!

I know every blogger and their brother has posted about the Nordstrom sale.  I originally wanted to purchase a pair of new jeans for the school year since I can't wear any of my jeans with rips or tears.  I ordered three pairs and had to send all three back because they just didn't work, so I ordered something else I needed--workout clothes!  I got this tank and leggings for the price of the leggings not on sale...such a good deal!  This tank might be my favorite because of its high neckline and breathable material.  These leggings will be perfect for Friday's spin class because they are vented on the side!  So yeah, my only purchase isn't school appropriate but they give me the motivation to get out and workout!!

I am OBSESSED with podcast listening!  So much in fact that I was thinking just yesterday that I need to do a post on some of my favorite podcast episodes.  I've been listening to lots of podcasts while out on the beach this week because I can't read out in the sun (I have to put on my reading glasses and then it's too bright for my eyes ha!).  Brittany Price Brooker came to my old church almost two years ago to share her testimony at a women's event, so I knew her story.  I didn't expect to bawl my eyes out on the beach while listening to this podcast!  Definitely a favorite--especially because she talks about universal suffering, so no matter what you're going through, this podcast will apply to you!

Rosemary Beach is my FAVORITE.  I'll do an entire post next week on our beach trip, but I think we've found our new favorite spot!

I had no idea Dustin took this of my yesterday, but it has a lot of my favorite things in it...there's a coffee shop in downtown Rosemary called AmaVida Coffee.  I've had a latte from there every day--so good!  And I love this dress!  Perfect for the beach!

We're headed back home today and I cannot wait to get back to eating healthy and exercising!  I've eaten relatively well for most of my meals while on vacation--except that I've had dessert every night ha!  #YOLO

Four Years

Thursday, July 26, 2018

Today marks four years of marriage.  Four years?!  When I was younger and had planned my entire life out down to what age I was going to get married and what age I was going to have babies, my life today looks nothing like what I had planned.

But I'm so happy it doesn't.

I can't imagine my life without Dustin--especially after everything we've been through.

He's the first to get over an argument and always tries to get me laughing so I can get over it.

He calls me as soon as he gets off of work--every single day.  I know that if I don't have a phone call by 5:35, something is wrong.

He extends so much grace to me and I never deserve it.  When I think about how much grace he extends to me, I'm quickly reminded that I should freely extend grace to him.

I remember getting ready for our wedding, and I distinctly remember how calm I was.  And it's because I knew I was doing exactly what I should be doing.  Has it been all roses and fairytales?  No.  But I know that love isn't a feeling--it's a choice.  And Dustin and I both consciously choose to love each other every day no matter what.  I'm so thankful to my friend Dana for setting us up on a blind date and the fact that I agreed to go on one 😜

Happy Anniversary, Dustin!  You're my favorite husband 😂

Happy Birthday D!

Wednesday, July 25, 2018

I'm popping in today from Rosemary Beach!  We've been on vacation since Monday, and I didn't get any blog posts planned ahead of time 🙈  But today is a special day because it's DUSTIN'S BIRTHDAY!!!

Dustin is turning 33 today so I wanted to share a couple of facts about Dustin for those of you who may be new followers!

1. Dustin is obsessed with our yard and making it look perfect.  He works really hard on it and is really proud of how green it is.

2. Speaking of vacations, Dustin researches everything and wants to plan everything and I am the exact opposite!

3. He loves outdoor sporting like hunting and fishing.

4. He's good at making corny jokes :)

5. He breaks out dancing sometimes and it always makes me laugh.

6. He's so excited to be a daddy!!  And I can't wait to see him be one.

Happy Birthday, D!!  I love you!

Friday Faves!

Friday, July 20, 2018

Woohoo it's FRIDAY!!!  I've been in a workshop all week that's lasted every day until 3:30 and while I've learned a lot, getting back into the school routine has been tough!  I've got two weeks left of summer, and I plan to enjoy every day!  Dustin and I have a vacation planned that we booked/paid for in March and I've been looking forward to that for MONTHS!!!

And just a reminder that we are keeping out PayPal account open for donations.  If you wish to donate, you can give through paypal.me/DustinShaneyfelt.  We are so unbelievably appreciative of the generosity shown to us!

Now, for my FAVORITES from this week!

I'm desperately in need of some new back to school clothes, so I picked this dress up from a local boutique.  (This dress is similar.)  I loved the solid color and style because I felt it was very Meghan Markle-esque!  (I've had lots of questions about my shoes before.  I bought them last year? at Nordstrom.  They don't carry them anymore, but here's a link to them for a cheaper price!!)

Sunday night I threw Dustin a family birthday party, and it was a Braves baseball theme!  I served "ballpark food" and I had recorded the Braves game from earlier that day and it was on during the party.  The cake was SO GOOD!!  I told Dustin that once we have a baby, I'll quit throwing him the themed birthday parties haha!

Wednesday we had our physicals scheduled, which are required for our home study.  Those we scheduled in the evening, so once I finished with my workshop that day, I threw on workout clothes and went to the park to walk.  I love listening to podcasts while I walk and that day I was listening to one from Risen Motherhood--I've been listening to RM podcast for almost a year now in preparation for when we have children!  (Side note: I live in a small town...so small in that as I was walking at the park, my dad pulled up to play disc golf with his friend.  I laughed because only in a small town do you run into your parents!)

 Out running errands 😊

Last Friday I went to Birmingham to meet up with my bestie and our old college women's minister, Kim!  I still remember when Janie and I walked into the Baptist Campus Ministries (BCM) in August 2007.  And here we are 11 years later and we are still friends with all of our friends we made at the BCM and with Kim!!  I'm a huge advocate of getting involved in a campus ministry in college!

And for my FAVORITE song of the week...

Take Me Out to ShaneyFIELD!

Wednesday, July 18, 2018

We celebrated Dustin's birthday Sunday night since we'll be gone on our vacation on his actual birthday.  I'm a HUGE sucker for throwing a themed-birthday party.  I LOVE THEM!  My mom always threw my sister and I themed birthday parties, so I told Dustin that this is most likely his last year of getting a themed party since hopefully next summer we'll have a baby!!!

I realized a few things about Sunday night:
1. I need to take more pictures
2. I need to document that people actually attended

Dustin loves watching the Braves and this season has been extra fun watching them since they've been pretty good!  Because of that, I threw him an Atlanta Braves Baseball Party!!

We grabbed a quick picture before the party started and I'm glad we did because this was our only one all night!

The rest of the pictures are food set-up.  I decided to serve "ballpark food" aka food you'd buy in the ballpark.

One of the foods I served was a Frito pie.  I went ahead and got the trays prepped with the fritos so our guests only had to add the cheese and chili if they wanted.  I ordered these trays on Amazon!

I ordered the baseball plates and napkins from Amazon and had those set out at the beginning of the line.  Then I borrowed two tiered galvanized stands to set out hotdogs and bags of chips.  Dustin grilled the hotdogs early, and I wrapped them in foil in their buns--kind of like when you buy them at a ball field.

This was the other side.  The hotdogs went on the bottom tiers of both stands and condiments went in the red tray on the right.

You can't really see it on the sign, but it says "Welcome to ShaneyField"--I loved it!  I had out a bucket of Cracker Jacks and a few bags of Big League Chew as favors.  The cake was out of this world delicious!!!

Happy early birthday, D, and I can't wait to celebrate your real birthday at the beach!!
