How to Keep Your Health-Related New Year's Resolutions Going Strong

Wednesday, February 7, 2018

It's February and statistically, most people have already given up on their New Year's resolutions.  That's why I'm not a resolution maker--I prefer to make goals because I feel like  I'm more likely to stick with a goal versus a sudden change like a resolution.  Make sense?

Below I've listed a few different ways to keep your health-related resolutions/goals going strong for the rest of the year!

Change up your workout.
I can sometimes get bored doing the same workout over and over again (or the same type), so every once in a while I love going to our local stadium and running the bleachers.  Changing up my workout--even if it's just that one time--reenergizes me and helps me get out of any workout rut I may be in.

Plan out your meals.
I did a post a couple of years ago on how I meal plan, and I pretty much still meal plan the same way.  I once heard or read somewhere that if fail to plan then you plan to fail.  Isn't that so true in the eating department?  If I'm not on my game with planning out our weekly suppers or pre-packing my snacks, then I usually end up eating horribly or giving into cravings and over-eating.

Dress like you mean it.
This may seem shallow to some, but having workout clothes that match or coordinate makes me feel like I have my act together...especially in the gym in front of everyone who is already physically fit.  If you're someone who feels awkward at the gym, I suggest getting a cute new workout outfit to motivate you!  Old Navy or Target have really reasonable and cute athletic wear!

Have accountability.
Whether it's in the form of a person or electronics, accountability helps.  I have the Apple Series 2 watch and it is the best thing Dustin could have given me.  I've had it a little over a year now, and I love how it motivates me to hit my move, exercise, and standing goals.  What's even better is you can connect with other people.  My sister is awesome at working out every day on her spin bike so I always get her workout notification.

Practice self care.
Drink lots of water. Get plenty of sleep.  Take rest days.  Don't stress and take care of YOU!!!  If you're anything like me, trying to maintain a consistent workout schedule can make  you stressed out--especially if you have a busy couple of days or just lots going on in your life.  Don't forget to give yourself grace.  it's okay to skip a workout day.  If you eat horribly, don't give up....just start over.  Change takes time and it takes consistency, so don't lose heart!

What other tips do you have for keeping your health-related New Year's goals going strong?

  5. Planning out meals helps us so much! I've started going to the store a few times a week - if I go once a week then I feel like something comes up and we waste the food. I'm glad we've been a little behind on our weight loss goals because that'll inspire us to stick with eating better for a longer period/get used to it and start living that way.

  6. I was just posting how I need to ramp up this month. I gave myself grace to work out once a week in January, but it's time to pick it up now that the big deadlines are over. I want to feel my best by the time we head out for vacation in April!

  7. I totally slacked over the last week or two. We got a bunch of Girl Scout cookies from our neighbor and then we had a snowstorm and I didn't want to leave the house and things kind of went off the rails lol. Back on track this week! Love your tips!
