What's Up Wednesday--February 2018

Wednesday, February 28, 2018

Happy last day of February!!  I literally cannot believe how fast 2018 has flown by so far!  In a way it's making me very sad because I absolutely love the group of kids I teach this year.  Every once in a while a group of kids comes along where every single class is enjoyable, and this is that year for me.  There isn't a single class that I dread because each one is so great!  I will definitely miss this group next year.

Since it's the last Wednesday of the month, I'm linking up with Shay for What's Up Wednesday!

What we're eating this week...
We aren't eating anything special this week.  Monday night I was craving Mexican food but didn't want anything fattening, so I made my own oven baked nachos!  I told Dustin to get a picture of me with my food and he took a million and these are just a few...

Last night I had book club so D was on his own.  Tonight I'll probably make spaghetti and tomorrow night???

What I'm reminiscing about...

What I'm loving...
My hair wand!  My hair in the pictures from Monday night hadn't been washed in a couple of days, and I used the wand Sunday morning and my hair was still looking that good Monday night.

I've also been loving my slippers that I've been wearing all the time.  I'll be really sad when it gets too hot for me to wear them ha!

I loved the Hallmark Valentine's movies--Cooking With Love, Very Very Valentine, and there's one other new one that I can't think of the title but it was good!

What we've been up to...
I had surgery toward the beginning of the month so that pretty much slowed me down for the entire month.  Don't you love that cap they put on me?  It was the weirdest thing.

And I know I'm the only who who even probably sees this, but the sun spots on my cheek bother me so much!  I can't use any product on them currently so my derm told me I could go to a specialist in Birmingham to get them lasered but $$$

Since I was still recovering on Valentine's Day, Dustin cooked!  He really outdid himself by cooking me a wonderful filet--which I've asked him to cook again multiple times haha!

Dustin is still sleeping in the chair.

 We ran errands together.

We tried out a local brewery.

We enjoyed a pancake breakfast together.

And once I started feeling better, we went walking together.

What I'm dreading...
The rain today and tomorrow--we have major flood warnings.

What I'm working on...
Reading a fiction book and then a theological book--I have not been good about balancing that out and so that's my goal for this year.

What I'm excited about...
I tore off my February calendar page at school yesterday and got really excited because I didn't realize spring break is in about two weeks!  I was definitely thinking it was more like four weeks away.

What I'm watching/reading...
My book review for February should be up tomorrow so check back for that.  And I've been watching the usual...reality tv and Hallmark haha!  Oh, I watched a series on Netflix that my friend Hope recommended to me and it is called Godless.  It's a western and it was great!  I was very happy with the ending.  It's only 7 episodes long so shows like that are extremely doable for me.

I also laughed really hard while watching this 😂😂😂

What I'm listening to...
I love listening to podcasts in the mornings while I'm getting ready.  Every morning I listen to Albert Mohler's The Briefing, which is world news from a Christian point of view.  My other favorite is Sheologians--their latest on the IF Gathering was very informative.

And duh, Leon Bridges.

What I'm wearing...

 dress-Matilda Jane | boots

leggings | slippers

What I'm doing this weekend...
We have our missions conference at church so I'll be doing that and going to a tool and gadget shower.

What I'm looking forward to next month...

What else is new...
not much!

Weekend Review!

Monday, February 26, 2018

Can you believe it's already Monday??
Yep, this is exactly how I feel today.

Do you ever make plans and then when it comes time to actually do them, you suddenly wish you didn't make those plans?  Once I realized how packed our weekend was really going to be, I suddenly wanted to be free of our plans!  We kept our Friday plans but totally changed our Saturday plans and Saturday turned out to be a really great day!

Friday we went to the grand opening of a local brewery and ran into so many people we knew.  My sister and brother in law met up with us later that night.  You can tell she put effort  into what she wore and I just kept on what I had on at school that day 😜

Saturday morning we got up really early and went to a pancake breakfast.

We went to the grocery store together and then since it was such a beautiful day, we decided to go to our local park to walk for exercise.  Since I'm still not able to do anything high impact right now, speed walking is my choice of exercise.

Dustin grilled steaks Saturday  night, and I tried to recreate once of my favorite restaurant filet mignon's by throwing some blue cheese on top....definitely not the same.  I told Dustin I liked how he cooked mine on Valentine's Day much better!

This is our only picture from Sunday.  We went to church, ate at Panera after, and I grabbed frozen yogurt next door.  Then once we came home, I put on a Hallmark movie and we both took a nice nap! haha!  Then we had church again last night.

Our weekend was pretty low key, but it was exactly how I wanted it!

Friday Faves!

Friday, February 23, 2018

Happy Friday!  This was a short week and it actually felt like a short week because it went by fast!  I was off yesterday for the 2nd half of the day for my post-op appointment, so my week really felt short.  Dustin and I have a pretty fun weekend planned so I'll actually have a weekend to document on Monday ha!

I'm sharing a few of my FAVORITES today!

I had seen a few people posting their IG color palettes so I did mine.  It's not the prettiest, but at least the colors all go well together!

I started browsing the internet for Easter dresses and came across two that I love!  This dress is from Anthro, so I'm hoping my local Anthro has it in stock.  I'm not a fan of ordering online from them because their sizing is always so weird.

And I really love this dress!  I wanted it last year when it was in a different print, but by the time I decided that, they were sold out everywhere with my size.

Out of the two dresses, which is your favorite?

Dustin was off work on Monday, too, so we spent the entire day together doing normal, married things and it was MY FAVORITE!  We went to the grocery store.  Then we went to both Lowe's and Home Depot looking at patio furniture and tile.  We grabbed a coffee for me and then came home where I did laundry and Dustin worked on his new mower.  It was the best day.

Wednesday I compared the Lululemon Align Legging with the Zella Live In Midi legging.  Head over to that post here to figure out which one would be best for you!

And because I listen to music all the time, I'm going to try to share a favorite song with y'all each Friday.  This artist is one I've been listening to a while.  When I first heard him, I thought I was listening to someone from the 1960s but it was a song from 2015!  I love his old, soulful songs, and I love that he writes them himself.

Okay, I think that's it for today!  I hope y'all have a great weekend and I'll see y'all back here on Monday!

The Lululemon Align II Leggings vs The Zella Live In Midi Leggings

Wednesday, February 21, 2018

Where would we be in life without leggings?  I remember being in college when leggings were semi being made popular and loving how comfortable I felt when wearing them, but also feeling self-aware because of the huge debate about leggings not being pants...yada yada yada.  Fast forward 8ish years 🙈 and I'd wear leggings to teach in if it were acceptable ha!

I've got two really great pairs of leggings that I'm going to compare for you today because I want you to be informed if you're ever wanting to purchase either of these!

First, I wanted to let you know that my shirt is "technically" considered vintage since it's Dustin's from his senior year of high school aka my freshman year.  Our basketball team or fans (I never really knew??) was called the Hoop Squad.

And these are both dark leggings, so that's why it's really hard to tell much distinction in the pictures.  Both are a midi length.

The fabric of these is really thin, and I think online they are described as "second skin."  And they really feel just like that.  I love how soft the fabric is, but they are thin--not see-through thin, but still thin.  I could easily take a nap in these and forget I even had on pants. 😜

These stretch out really well in the waist, so I would suggest sizing down one size.  I could also see these working for pregnancy up to a point, so that was partly my justification for owning two pairs because they are pricey.  They don't have a traditional waistband which I really like.

These have washed and worn well!

In my opinion, these would not be great workout pants.  I don't think they would stay up well during a high impact workout.  Really, these are great for lounging around and running errands.

These have a thick fabric--much thicker than I was expecting!!  I had read that a few bloggers wear these with boots and tunic tops in the winter and I can totally see that because they don't have a legging look to them.

These are true to size and don't have much give in the waist.  I could not see these working for anyone in their pregnancy since the waist is pretty restrictive.

They have washed and worn well so far!

These could definitely be worn for a workout, but since they are pretty thick, I wouldn't.  I know this is weird but I don't like to wear anything that's going to make me sweat more in my workouts ha.  Again, these can be worn like the Lulus in errand running and lounging, but they can also be worn dressed up with boots and a tunic top.

The Align leggings are my favorite simply due to the fit and fabric.  They really are so so comfortable that once you start wearing them, you aren't going to want to wear anything else!  The Zella leggings are half the price and would be my #2 choice!

I don't have a weekend recap for y'all today because my weekend was boring--lots of laying around and resting...which is exactly what I needed to do!  I saw this post on my friend Laura's blog recently and loved the idea behind it and thought it would be perfect for today.  Come back tomorrow because I have something fun planned!  (Well, at least I think it's fun ha)

1. What is your favorite smell?
Fresh linen scents and the Mahogany Teakwood candle from BBW
2. Last time you cried?
Sunday at church while singing this song.  The words are so beautiful and full of so much biblical truth--it's one of my favorites!

3. What is your favorite pizza?
I'm pretty plain--I like pepperoni.  But I also like a vegetable pizza, too.
4. What is your favorite flower?
Hydrangeas!  We're going to plant one in our front flower bed this year.
5. What is your favorite dog breed?
I like big dogs like labs, golden retrievers, labradoodles, etc.
6. Do you untie your laces before taking your shoes off?

7. Do you like roller coasters?
NO!!!  I don't like heights and I don't like things that get my stomach like that.  I'm the person holding everyone's things and I'm completely fine with that.

8. Favorite ice cream?
Chocolate chip cookie dough
9. What are you listening to?
Yesterday while we were doing stuff around the house, The Beatles Abbey Road album was on--it's my favorite Beatles album!  I've also been listening to lots of Avett Brothers, too.
10. What is your favorite food?
If I could eat whatever I wanted and not gain weight, my favorite food would be chicken fingers and pizza.
11. What is your favorite holiday?
My birthday and Christmas
12. Night owl or morning person?
I'm definitely a morning person although lately, I've been sleeping in a little longer in the 5:30-45 on school mornings.  I prefer getting up earlier rather than staying up late.  I like being in bed no later than 9:30!
13. Favorite day of the week?
Any day that I'm not in school haha!!

Friday Faves!

Friday, February 16, 2018

Hey Hey, I'm alive!!!  I posted last Friday that I was having surgery that morning and wow, it was rougher than I was expecting.  I'm still in the recovery process and have just gotten to where I can sit up and not be uncomfortable.  Thank you to everyone who commented on that post or messaged me--it's been a crazy week and I am so appreciative!

I'm also announcing the winner of the Regan Allison earrings at the bottom of the post!

Having surgery is the worst, but the only good thing is that my family brought me food!  My sister and Nick were the first to bring us dinner on Saturday night and it was delish!  Then my mom brought supper Sunday night and brought me lunch earlier this week.  Two of my teacher friends at school brought us supper this week, too, and along with all of the food, we've also had family "babysitting" me ha!

The hospital did this weird thing this time while I was in surgery and put this ointment over my eyes to keep them from drying out.  Well, it also caused double vision, and I didn't get my eyesight back until Sunday morning!  So, both my dad and Dustin's mom alternated staying with me while Dustin ran errands and went to church on Sunday.

This year's Valentine's Day was THE VERY BEST because Dustin cooked!  There was no way I was going to be able to handle going out to eat, so instead of grabbing takeout (which was my idea), he cooked my absolute favorite cut of meat--filet mignon.  He fancied it up with a wine reduction, roasted red potatoes, and roasted asparagus!  SO GOOD!!  I told him that I need him to cook me a gourmet meal on the 14th of every month ha!

I'm so very excited about this three day weekend because my plans include laying on the couch or in my bed recovering.  I'm hoping to feel more like myself next week after a nice long weekend of recovery....and blog reading catch up!

Oh, and the winner of the Regan Allison earrings is....

Regan will be emailing you soon!!!
Happy Friday, y'all!

Friday Favs :)

Friday, February 9, 2018

Happy Friday, y'all!!  I think last Friday was the first time I titled my Friday Favorites post as a Favs and I'm sticking with it.  If you know me in real life, then you know my affection for abbreviating everything 😂😂...even when my sister and bff hate it ha!

And before I tell you about some of my FAVS, I wanted to ask for your prayers.  I'm having surgery today to have my endometriosis cleaned out and I'm not worried about it at all except for the recovery.  The last time I was in a lot of pain and I'm worried about my recovery lasting a long time like it did my last surgery.  Thank you for praying!

Okay now for my FAVS!

I got this dress Monday night and it's a light sweater material.  I probably shouldn't have worn it this week because it was cool and rainy, but I loved it wanted to wear it--so I just pretended it was sunny and warm :)  Dress for the season you want, not the season you're in, right 😜

And this is what I normally look like after school ha!  These thin jogger pj pants from Gap are so soft and I am constantly wearing these slippers around the house.

Wednesday was a different kind of day at school in which students could volunteer outside of school instead of coming to school that day.  And it was rainy and gross.  One of my teacher friends got to school at the same time as me and her husband was picking her up coffee from a local coffee shop.  He picked me up a cup, too, and it made my day!  I enjoyed sipping my hot coffee while catching up on the mountain of school work I had.

Come back Monday for an exciting giveaway!!!  Sneak peek on last night's IG story! (@saraheshaneyfelt)

January 2018 Reads

Thursday, February 8, 2018

I know this post is a little late 🙈 BUT I'm so excited to share it with y'all because I loved every book I read this month!!!  They were all three very different books, but they were all wonderful and I would recommend them all to you!

Let me start this by saying that I am a huge John Green fan.  I read my first JG novel in college for a YA lit class (it was Looking for Alaska) and ever since then, I've been a fan of his.  He writes about life--the nitty gritty hard parts of life and not the romanticized version.

This novel is centered on Aza, a 16 year old, and the book jacket makes it sound like she wants to be some sort of detective.  The book jacket/Amazon review gives nothing away and the book is so much more than that.  Please, please read this book!  I read it in a day :)

I picked this up at B&N after reading the jacket and thinking that it sounded interesting.  It's historical fiction and I didn't realize it until the end when I read the author's notes.  It's based off of the real life story of a baby being auctioned off at the Seattle World's Fair in the early 1900s.  Seattle apparently also had a large prostitution district and both of these stories weave together.  You've got to read the story to find out what happens!

This was for my book club in January, and I'll have to admit, I wasn't the biggest fan of Celeste Ng's first book, Everything I Never Told You.  Why?  She changed narrators way too much within a single chapter.  Well, I was prepared for that this time and I think that really helped me to enjoy this book because I wasn't as annoying when reading #englishteacherprobs

This book is about a single mother and her high school-aged daughter who move to a master planned community.  Their lives intertwine with the lives of a upper class family with 4 high school aged children.  This is another book that you've got to read because the storyline was so good!

I have yet to read a book this month and want a good love story for Valentine's Day!  Any suggestions?

How to Keep Your Health-Related New Year's Resolutions Going Strong

Wednesday, February 7, 2018

It's February and statistically, most people have already given up on their New Year's resolutions.  That's why I'm not a resolution maker--I prefer to make goals because I feel like  I'm more likely to stick with a goal versus a sudden change like a resolution.  Make sense?

Below I've listed a few different ways to keep your health-related resolutions/goals going strong for the rest of the year!

Change up your workout.
I can sometimes get bored doing the same workout over and over again (or the same type), so every once in a while I love going to our local stadium and running the bleachers.  Changing up my workout--even if it's just that one time--reenergizes me and helps me get out of any workout rut I may be in.

Plan out your meals.
I did a post a couple of years ago on how I meal plan, and I pretty much still meal plan the same way.  I once heard or read somewhere that if fail to plan then you plan to fail.  Isn't that so true in the eating department?  If I'm not on my game with planning out our weekly suppers or pre-packing my snacks, then I usually end up eating horribly or giving into cravings and over-eating.

Dress like you mean it.
This may seem shallow to some, but having workout clothes that match or coordinate makes me feel like I have my act together...especially in the gym in front of everyone who is already physically fit.  If you're someone who feels awkward at the gym, I suggest getting a cute new workout outfit to motivate you!  Old Navy or Target have really reasonable and cute athletic wear!

Have accountability.
Whether it's in the form of a person or electronics, accountability helps.  I have the Apple Series 2 watch and it is the best thing Dustin could have given me.  I've had it a little over a year now, and I love how it motivates me to hit my move, exercise, and standing goals.  What's even better is you can connect with other people.  My sister is awesome at working out every day on her spin bike so I always get her workout notification.

Practice self care.
Drink lots of water. Get plenty of sleep.  Take rest days.  Don't stress and take care of YOU!!!  If you're anything like me, trying to maintain a consistent workout schedule can make  you stressed out--especially if you have a busy couple of days or just lots going on in your life.  Don't forget to give yourself grace.  it's okay to skip a workout day.  If you eat horribly, don't give up....just start over.  Change takes time and it takes consistency, so don't lose heart!

What other tips do you have for keeping your health-related New Year's goals going strong?

Weekend Review!

Monday, February 5, 2018

Did everyone survive This Is Us?  I'm writing this Sunday evening and my plan is to stay up to watch it, so we'll see!  But wasn't the halftime show so good?

Dustin and I had a busy but fun weekend together and everything started on Friday...
Our church put on a marriage conference so Friday after school I rushed home to wash clothes.  I didn't have time to fold everything that was clean so most of it stayed in piles like the next picture...

What's great about this picture is that the towels on the bench had been there for a couple of days and we'd just been grabbing what we needed. #wasnthomemuchlastweek  Oh, and our marriage conference started Friday night at 7 with our first session!  Gary Thomas was the guy who led it--look him up!!

Saturday morning we got to church at 7:30 for day 2 of the conference!!  I even made the comment to Dustin that we left the house earlier on a Saturday that I do on a school day ha!

After day 2 was over (and it was so, so good!!), we went to Huntsville to eat lunch and do a little shopping.  I picked up a few things at Williams Sonoma that I needed and found a new Lilly dress that I'm going back today to get 😂

We got home that evening and I folded ALL THE CLOTHES!!  Woohoo!

We had church Sunday morning.

I made a cake for a friend who had surgery.

And this is how Dustin prepped for the Super Bowl #wheredustinsleeps

I downloaded a new lock screen, and for those of you who want to know, I get all of mine from the She Reads Truth app for FREE!!
