Small Town Fun

Monday, September 18, 2017

There are some days where I really wished I lived in a much bigger city.  I think I would love the convenience of living closer to multiple restaurants or trying out boutique fitness centers or being closer to great shopping.

But then I'm always reminded of why I love living in a small town--especially the town I grew up in--like when I'm running at the park and everyone I pass tells me "Good Morning" or when I'm always running into someone I know at either Walmart or Kroger.  Or more importantly, when a funeral procession drives by and everyone stops and pulls over to pay respect for the deceased person.

Saturday was my town's annual festival.  I've always gone (except when I was in college and I was at the football game), and this year was no exception.  Dustin had to work so I went with my sister and mom, and Rachel brought her camera along to grab some shots.  I pulled these off of her Facebook page, so enjoy some photos showing small town, southern life!

Isn't my mom so cute?!  She ended up buying that poncho, too!

Notice the old fashioned cokes?  You can't go to this burger joint (that's been around even before my parents were kids--and they sat at that same counter) without ordering an old fashioned coke.

  1. You're mom is so cute and I'm glad she got the poncho!! I live in between a small town and a little but bigger town so never felt like I was really either resident. People are not a friendly up here. I should've been a southerner where everyone waves and says hello. No one will keep me from being friendly, lol!! LOVE Fall festivals!

  3. That poncho is so cute on your mom! I love small town festivals and events -- probably because I grew up in a large suburb! We live in a smallish town now, but our next city over is a large one so I feel like we get the best of both worlds for the time being (we'll be moving to a suburb in the spring). I LOVE being able to walk everywhere right now -- to the library, the grocery store, Starbucks, etc.

  5. That looks like so much fun! I live in a small town in Central Alabama, and couldn't imagine being anywhere else!

Out of curiosity, what boutique did that poncho come from? I'd love to snag one!

  7. Oh your Mom is too cute. Sometimes I wish I lived in a small town as I grew up in the city. And Bostonian's are not known for their friendly behavior. I wish people were friendlier around here.

  8. Definitely seems like a great feeling living in a small town! Sure there are some conveniences about big towns but nothing beats the small town feel. Love that poncho on your mom, and yes she's adorable! :)

  9. I love, love, love small town life! My favorite memories of my small town are definitely the football rivalry we had with the team across the creek-we were even banned from traveling to that side of town during rivalry week! Now we're a combined school, so times have definitely changed, but it's still a fun memory :)

  10. So fun! I'm from a small country town and transitioning to Houston 5 years ago was a MAJOR struggle. I miss the small town feel (and price!) but have grown to love Houston and all of it's convenience as well. We eventually hope to move out to some land but for now we love our big city.

  11. We love events like this, too! We live in a medium city so I feel like we get the best of both worlds. We have plenty to see and do, but everything has that small town feel because everybody knows everybody. It's nice!

  13. I love local festivals like this one! Looks like a fun weekend with your fam. My favorite thing about where I live is that there's tons of fun small town things with all of our extended family and big city stuff just a couple hours away.
