Fall Mug Exchange + an Update

Thursday, September 28, 2017

Happy Thursday, y'all!

First, I want to say thank you to everyone who reached out to me about my Popo.  I mentioned on the blog about 2 weeks ago about needing prayers, and on Sunday morning, he passed away peacefully.  His funeral was yesterday, and it was very nice and meaningful.  To give you an idea about his character, my dad and his sisters found out that he had been awarded two bronze stars while in Korea.  That was something he never told anyone about because he wasn't a boastful person.  He was also injured while in Korea but never filed for any disability with the military.  He was extremely humble, and we all miss him very much.

I had signed up for the Mug Exchange before I realized that all of this would be happening, so I'm popping in today to share what I received from my partner.  I will be back blogging on Monday like normal :)
I was paired with Justine from Charm City Ciemny's.  I let her know I wanted a really feminine mug and she sent me two!  Plus these cute paper straws!  Thank you Justine!  I really appreciate these!  The big mug will be perfect for coffee AND ice cream ha!

Friday Favorites!

This post contains affiliate links at no cost to you.  Thank you for supporting Meet the Shaneyfelts blog!

Happy Friday, friends!!  AND Happy first day of Fall!  I've only been pretending it's been fall since Labor Day was over, so I'm glad the calendar finally caught up with me!  Now if the weather could, right?!  I checked the weather forecast and we've got a hight of 88 today (yuck!) but next Friday it should start a week of highs in the low 70s--I'm hoping that happens!

As always, I'm sharing a bunch of my FAVORITES today!

I got a massage last week, and it was heavenly!  My sister and I both go to the same girl and we think she's the very best we've ever been to.  Rachel gets massages like 3x a month and I get them very sporadically, but I wish I had time to get one every week or two.

If you watched my IG stories (@saraheshaneyfelt) from Sunday, you saw where I went to a Hanson concert....basically by myself.  My sister is the biggest Hanson fan I know and she's been to 6 or 7 concerts.  Earlier this summer, she asked if I would go to this concert with her and I agreed since it was on a Sunday night, and they really are a good band!  (and it was my 3rd time to watch them)  It wasn't until 2 days before the concert that we found out Rachel won a backstage meet and greet with Hanson.  Then we found out she had to go alone and I would have to wait in line by myself. Long story short, she got front row spots because of that and when I was let into the venue 2 hours after her, I couldn't make my way up to her.  So I watched the concert alone next to some drunk girl--and basically let Rachel know that it was my last Hanson concert with her 😊

Since I was exhausted Monday and my feet were sore from standing on concrete Sunday night, I was pleasantly surprised Monday morning when TWO students (one former and one current) brought me surprises!  A student from last year brought me a bag of candy corn because she remembered how much I love it, and a student from this year brought me breakfast!  I would love it if all Mondays started out that way!

I got my hair colored and trimmed up this week, and I thought I'd get some healthy lifestyle motivation while sitting under the dryer.  If it were acceptable, I would close my eyes and sleep under that dryer haha!

Wednesday I shared our fall decor home tour!

I pulled some inspiration from Loverly Grey and tied my shirt up yesterday for school.  I know it's something so simple, but I loved how it changed my look up enough that I'll definitely be doing that again!

A few other things...
-Wednesday the faculty played dodgeball against the students....dream come true, right?! ha!  It was so much fun and the teachers had shirts made that said "The Dodgefathers."  We had so much fun and hope to do that fundraiser again next year!  My arm was sore yesterday since I haven't thrown anything in a long time!
-I have been on a reading streak and am on my 4th book this month, so I can't wait to blog my recap since I spent most of July and August in a reading slump.
-My grandfather is still not doing well, so please continue to pray for him and my family.

Fall Favorites 2017: Fall Decor!

Wednesday, September 20, 2017

Happy Wednesday, y'all!  As I'm typing today's post, it may not feel like fall outside but it sure smells like fall in my house!  I've got Leaves burning, the lamps on, and I'm wrapped in a blanket blogging on the couch--it's the coziest!!

I'm so excited to see everyone's fall decor, and if you link up with Emily or I, be sure to link back to one of us!

Happy Fall, y'all!  And welcome to the Shaneyfelt home!
The front porch is pretty simple this year, and since we've added rocking chairs this year, I had to go buy outdoor fall pillows.  I found the perfect ones at Pottery Barn during Labor Day weekend and I love the layered look!  I also added the garden flag and flag holder for the fall.  Once it gets October, I'll add real pumpkins to the porch next to the ceramic ones.

 Our entryway

I rearranged the sofa table and added a few things  (sorry the lighting is bad in these pictures!)

The mantle is my favorite this year!

The table is pretty simple, too.  You can find my plaid napkins here.

A little area in the kitchen

Y'all, this tea towel was $1.88 from Walmart!!

Another area of our kitchen

I love decorating for fall ALMOST as much as I love decorating for Christmas!  Almost 😂😂  I can't wait to check out everyone's fall decorations because the coziness of fall decor really makes me want to watch fall movies on the Hallmark channel--which just happen to premiere Saturday night ha!

Small Town Fun

Monday, September 18, 2017

There are some days where I really wished I lived in a much bigger city.  I think I would love the convenience of living closer to multiple restaurants or trying out boutique fitness centers or being closer to great shopping.

But then I'm always reminded of why I love living in a small town--especially the town I grew up in--like when I'm running at the park and everyone I pass tells me "Good Morning" or when I'm always running into someone I know at either Walmart or Kroger.  Or more importantly, when a funeral procession drives by and everyone stops and pulls over to pay respect for the deceased person.

Saturday was my town's annual festival.  I've always gone (except when I was in college and I was at the football game), and this year was no exception.  Dustin had to work so I went with my sister and mom, and Rachel brought her camera along to grab some shots.  I pulled these off of her Facebook page, so enjoy some photos showing small town, southern life!

Isn't my mom so cute?!  She ended up buying that poncho, too!

Notice the old fashioned cokes?  You can't go to this burger joint (that's been around even before my parents were kids--and they sat at that same counter) without ordering an old fashioned coke.

What do you love about where you live?

A Prayer Request

Friday, September 15, 2017

Hey y'all!  I had good intentions of putting my Friday Favorites post together yesterday, but a few things happened that got in the way.

I just waned to pop in to ask y'all to pray for my grandfather.  Out of respect for my family, I'm not going to go into details on my blog, but your prayers are very much appreciated!

I will see y'all Monday!

Fall Favorites 2017: Favorite Fall Fashion

Wednesday, September 13, 2017

**This post contains affiliate links which may result in compensation for me at no extra cost to you!  Thank you for supporting Meet the Shaneyfelts blog!

I am so excited about today's topic for mine and Emily's Fall Favorites link up!  Fashion is my love language so you can imagine how much fun I've had following along with New York Fashion Week and all of the fashion bloggers I follow.  It would be a dream come true to attend that one year, but for right now, I'll follow along from Alabama 😜

If you're linking up with Emily and I, please make sure to link back to one of us!

Today I want to share a few items I want to add to my closet along with two fall looks that I've already shared on the blog this month, but are still season appropriate.

I have been checking on these slides every single day, and they have yet to restock in my size.  If you have smaller feet, then they usually stay stocked.  I used to have a pair of leopard flats in college and wore them all the time because they went with everything!  Now that slides are "in" right now, I want a pair of them but in leopard so I can pair them with multiple looks.

I have a sweater from this exact brand and very similar in style but it's more of a purple-ish and maroon color.  This year I'm hoping to fill my closet with more neutral colors--browns, beiges, grays, blacks, navys.  Those classic colors can be mixed and matched with each other or printed clothes that I already own.

I'm obsessed with this dress!  So classic.  So modest.  So preppy.  It also comes in a red, so that would be perfect for the Christmas season this year.

I also love everything about this look--the skirt, neutral top, leopard clutch.  I don't have many skirts because I'm drawn to dresses, so this is something I hope to add more of to my closet!

If you live in a warmer climate like I do, then your fall outfits right now may look like the one above.  And if you're looking for the perfect white jean, I highly suggest JCrew.  Their jean material is thicker so it's not see-through but it isn't too thick that it's hot...if that makes sense.  Yes, I know it's more on the expensive side, but I think it's worth it!  I've also gotten BBQ sauce on these jeans before and it came right out after I treated it!

This is also a favorite look for fall because black and cognac always pair well.  This tunic is thin enough to wear now without sweating to death, and my boots are so well made that I know I'll probably be wearing them 10 years from now!

Creating a Good Night's Sleep

Tuesday, September 12, 2017

For me, a good and productive day begins with a good night's sleep.  If I've had restless sleep or wake up with a sore back, I feel like that affects the rest of my day.  Maybe I'm tired all day or low on energy, so for me to feel as productive and energized as I can, that begins with getting the best sleep I can.

Here's what helps me:

Take a shower before bed.
There's nothing better than a hot shower or warm bath to get my body and mind ready for bed.  I know this is crazy, but I cannot sleep if I haven't had a shower.  It doesn't matter how late I've been out or if I'm not even dirty, a nighttime shower is part of my nightly ritual.

Unplug from your device(s).
I've read many places where the blue screens on your device send some type of message to your brain that keeps it wired, thus, keeping you awake at night.  Thirty minutes before getting ready for bed, I plug in my phone and watch and don't look at them until the next day.

Put your favorite lotion or oil on your wrists.
I have this Aveda oil that I love dabbing on my wrists before bed.  The smell is so soothing and if I breathe deeply a couple of times, then my heart rate relaxes and my brain is ready for sleep.  If you've ever had a massage, then you know what I'm talking about.  Before you begin your massage, you breathe deeply whatever oil you've selected, and that automatically relaxes your brain.  If you haven't tried it, you should!

Read a book.
I save my quiet time for the end of the day, but if you do yours in the morning, then you'll want to read some type of book (not scary!) to tire your eyes out.

What do you do to create a good night's sleep?

Don't forget to link up with us tomorrow your favorite fall fashion pieces or looks!

A Fall Look for Anyone

Monday, September 11, 2017

shirt | jeans (on sale!) | boots (on sale!) | bag

I have been a huge fan of this tunic ever since I bought it!  I love that it can be tucked in or worn as a tunic with leggings, and I love that it looks good on every body type.  I'm all about an outfit that is effortless but still looks on point.  This tunic, stretch skinny jeans, and riding boots will be part of my fall uniform this year.

In other news, did anyone stay up to watch Miss America last night?  School was canceled for us today because of the hurricane so I stayed up!  I was obviously pulling for Miss Alabama and was so sad she didn't make the top 5!  Honestly, I would have been happy with any southern girl winning!  Southern girls gotta stick together!  I'm happy for Miss North Dakota, and I know she made her home state proud 😊

If you watched, who were you rooting for?

Friday Favorites!

Friday, September 8, 2017

Happy Friday, friends--it's been a long week even though it's only been a 4 day work week.  I started out not feeling good, had a painful procedure done, and then my grandfather was admitted to ICU.  Please pray for him and my family.

Because of the craziness, blogging has taken a backseat (other than the 2 scheduled posts I already had) and I've hardly read any blogs.  I'm hoping to have time this weekend to catch up on reading and commenting.

As I always do on Fridays, I'm sharing a few of my FAVORITE things with y'all!
Last Saturday morning I hosted a college football kickoff breakfast and it was so fun that I'm going to make it a yearly tradition for the first Saturday of college football.  Since it was a new thing, we just had our parents and my sister and BIL over to eat pancakes, turkey sausage, and drink coffee while College Gameday was on the tv.  Everyone had a great time, so I'm already looking forward to next year and inviting more people!

That night we went over to our friends' house to watch the game and their little girl greeted us at the door with her new pet squirrel her grandparents had found that day 😂  It was hilarious because she has my mom for science class and told me her plans to grow that squirrel and make it a scarf haha!

The next few pictures are horrible quality and I snapped them quickly, but they are a few things that caught my eye.
I absolutely love these candle sticks and really tried to buy them while I was buying everything else at PB Sunday.

I also tried to convince Dustin that we needed to replace all of our living room pillows with down pillows from PB and get a few of these covers.

I need this mirror for the entryway....hint hint Dustin

I posted about how to wear white after Labor Day on Tuesday and loved this shot from my session with my sister!  We have a lot of fun shooting these looks together.

I love comfortable clothes so much.  On Tuesday after I got home from my doctor's appointment, all I wanted to do was put on something comfortable and lay on the couch.  If I could have worn my Matilda Jane top with these pj pants, I know my day would have been great haha!

Fall Favorites: Fall Drinks

Wednesday, September 6, 2017

Happy Wednesday, y'all!

I'm so excited about today's link up because I'm hoping to find some new fall-ish coffee drinks to try!  Make sure you link back to Emily or myself in your post!

Let me go ahead and start with a disclaimer--I am a huge water drinker.  As in, I prefer water over everything else....unless I'm treating myself, so today I'm going to share with you all of the drinks I like when I treat myself.  I'm also having to give up caffeine again since we're doing another round of IVF, so this may be a dumb question, but can I order my favorite Starbucks drinks decaf?!

My #1 favorite fall drink is a Pumpkin Spice Latte, nonfat no whip.  I love it from Starbucks and from my favorite local coffee shop downtown.

My #2 favorite fall drink is a Caramel Apple Spice (sugar free) from Starbucks--can't go wrong with hot apple cider and a little caramel sauce mixed in with it.

My #3 favorite fall drink is Russian Tea.  I don't know if you can buy it anywhere, but my mom used to make it when I was younger and I knew that was the start of cold weather when she had Russian Tea boiling on the stove.  I don't drink this anymore since it's loaded with sugar, but I might have one cup if my mom decides to make some (hint, hint Mom 😉)

Basically, fall drinks should be warm and soothing!

What are some new fall drinks that I should try?
(That can be healthy!)

How to Wear White After Labor Day

Tuesday, September 5, 2017

I grew up knowing that it was a sin to wear white after Labor Day.  White had a very short season in the South--Easter to Labor Day.  And you just did not challenge that rule.

But now things have changed and white has become more acceptable to wear after Labor Day. (Yay!) It all depends on how you wear it, of course.  Even now that the rule has relaxed a little, you'll still never see me in white shoes or a white dress after Labor Day 😜

Today I want to share an outfit that it totally acceptable to wear after Labor Day, and it's actually one of my favorite ways to wear my white jeans!

As always, thank you to my talented sister at RAW Images for capturing these photos!
