Friday Favorites!

Friday, July 7, 2017

Happy Friday, y'all!  I feel like this has been the longest week ever, and it probably didn't help that the beginning of the week was out of whack with the holiday.  Now I'm ready for the weekend!

Today I'm sharing a few of my favorite things for the week!

These are a few of the items in my shopping cart right now and I'm waiting to see if they go on sale next week!

Last night I watched an episode of a new show on TLC called Hair Goddess, and it's a new favorite!  The accents take a little to get used to, but I love the main character, Christina.  Apparently she began her hair extension business in her parents' garage when she was 18. She opened her first salon in Staten Island and the show follows her as she works to build clientele in her newest salon in NYC.  This show makes me want hair extensions!

Baking is a huge stress reliever for me and I needed something yesterday so I baked a cake!  I have a Southern Living desserts cookbook, so I found a recipe for a semi-homemade strawberry cake and made it along with a strawberry buttercream!  Dustin and I each had a piece last night and it was so good!  Now I'll be giving it all away today haha!

It looks like all I've eaten this week are sweets based on this picture and the one above--and it feels like it!  At least I've had some really good workouts and I'll be back in the gym early this morning, too.  I haven't had a milkshake in 7 years (which is when I first started losing weight).  I had a card for a free small milkshake, so I decided to actually use it and get one.  It was so good, but thank goodness milkshakes aren't something I crave because it wouldn't bother me if I didn't have another one for 7 more years.  Now chocolate chip cookies...I could never live without!

Dinner suggestions!
What are your favorite high protein dinners?  Tonight I'm going to bake chicken and probably either saute veggies or roast them, but that's my go-to.  Also--it needs to be simple!  Thanks!

  4. that cake looks delish! Baking is for sure a stress reliever for me, we've been doing a lot of it these past few weeks. I can't tell you the last time I had a milkshake but I've heard the CFA ones are yummy. Have a great weekend!

  5. I am trying to limit sweets too, but I baked yesterday as well! Mini cheesecakes, to have in the freezer for some company we are expecting over the next few weeks. For a high protein dinner suggestion, what about tuna? I often mix up tuna sandwich spread (tuna, pickle relish, a little spice, and a dab of mayo) but it doesn't have to be served on bread......try a scoop with crackers, tortilla chips, or alongside a big garden salad. Also, tuna burgers are a FAVORITE with us! And they don't require the oven, so are a convenient stove-top meal, perfect for hot summer days.

  6. That cake looks so tasty! As for suggestions for meals, I usually stick to chicken or fish of some kind and lately we've been doing tacos (with lettuce as the "shell") and a side dish of corn (cut from the cob), black beans, avocado, tomato, and cilantro all mixed together with lime squeezed on top. Very refreshing and the black beans give it a protein boost!

  7. I absolutely love milkshakes-and CFA has the best ones! And I totally bake as therapy, too. If I'm having a bad day, there is a 99% chance you will find brownies in our house ;-)

  9. We are all about salmon and it couldn't be easier! (And I think it's high in protein... I know it's good for you!) I just take the salmon (I get like 1/3 of the big plank from the seafood counter for the 2 of us), cover in olive oil and whatever seasoning you like, then squeeze a lemon on top and put in a 400 degree oven for about 30 minutes! (you want the inside to be light pink and not bright pink like it is when it's raw). It's so good! You could even throw veggies in the same way and have a one pan meal!

  15. Meatballs for high protein! I hide shredded veggies (zucchini, carrot) inside :) It helps with all the milkshake drinking because (unfortunately) I really DO crave them :)

  16. Oh I crave milkshakes way more than I should. ;) Sweet potato burrito bowls with ground beef (or ground turkey) and black beans is one of my go-to dinners.

  17. I so may have to pull out my SL cookbook and bake today with Carly Jo. We have a ton of strawberries about to go bad. I seriously craved milkshakes when I was pregnant with my boys and I'm pretty sure I'm still carrying around the extra I gained from them. haha

  19. Lately we have been grilling chicken or burgers (without the bun) and eating over green. So good! We do toppings like guac, salsa, etc.
