#MeetTheShaneyfelts: The Rehearsal Dinner

Thursday, March 30, 2017

(This is a post I did back in 2014 before I had any blog followers on our rehearsal dinner 😀 and I don't have many pictures because they are on another computer!)

Our rehearsal dinner was special in two ways--not only were we celebrating our upcoming wedding, but we also celebrated Dustin's 29th birthday!  He so graciously allowed me to plan our wedding date for the day after his birthday, so our rehearsal dinner doubled as a birthday celebration.

Earlier that day, I spent the morning with my bridesmaids relaxing by the pool for my bridesmaid luncheon.  It was heavenly and the perfect bridesmaids' luncheon!  The weather was absolutely gorgeous and my BFF's mom made my favorite for lunch--chicken divan casserole!  We then feasted on a butter pecan cake from a local bakery.  So good!  I gave my mom, Janie's mom, and the girls' their gifts and we parted ways to get ready for the rehearsal that night at 6.

You know they always say that something will go wrong on your wedding day?  I think that everything that could have gone wrong went wrong during the rehearsal--thank goodness!  The music on my CD wouldn't work with the church's sound system so we had to practice without music.  I was kind of worried since I wanted to walk out to a certain part of the song used in my bridal processional, but I just went with it and made the best of it  The guy who worked the sound system gave me new blank CDs to re-download my music on to, and I just prayed that they would work on wedding day!

After the rehearsal was over, we headed to the old train depot for dinner!!  JW Steakhouse catered and I had arranged to surprise Dustin with an Alabama cake for his birthday.  (This post is lacking on pictures because all of them are on my mom's camera and her computer, so my iPhone photos will have to work.)  Then we played two HILARIOUS games that had everyone laughing!!  Dustin then gave his guys their gifts; I surprised him with his birthday gifts, and my mom gave him a present, too.
Mary Beth, me, and Janie--Can you see I've changed out of my heels?

Later that night, I went back to my parents' house to spend the night.  Mom had written me a letter and wanted to read it to me.  Cue the tears!  Me, Mom, and Rachel cried the whole time she was trying to read it--well, cried and laughed.  We kicked my step-dad to the couch and all three of us girls slept in their king-size bed.  I hardly slept!!  I was so excited to marry Dustin the next day!!!!
This picture is REAL LIFE, y'all!!!  My eyes and face are red from all of the crying I did, and as you can tell, we all did quite a bit of crying 😜  They were tears of happiness, of course!

  1. Aww, sounds super special! Now Dustin has no reason to ever forget your anniversary hahah

  2. I love wedding stories and am enjoying reading yours! That whole fear of botched music is legit! I swore up and down my whole life I would use NOTHING but live music at my wedding because I couldn't risk it failing. And then we ended up getting married on the beach and recorded music was the only option we had, so we used it - and sure enough! Sound system failed! We had no music past the opening. All of the mid-wedding and recessional music was a bust. BUT! We had hired a really great videographer and he dubbed in the songs for the video, so it's almost like it really happened!

  3. Your rehearsal dress was SO PRETTY! Love it - so fun revisiting these posts!

  4. Girl, I squalled the night before our wedding too! It hit me at the end of our dinner and I cried all the way back to my apartment while one of my best friends drove and then a good couple of hours after we got settled in for the night. It was too much, lol! I'm enjoying these posts you're sharing looking back on your pre-blog big events!

  5. What a sweet picture of you and your mom and sister! Such special memories!

  6. So sweet!! I was super emotional the day/night of our rehearsal too. We both got emotional when I was practicing walking down the aisle and it was so special. You look gorgeous in your rehearsal dress!

  7. This sounds so sweet-I love that your mom wrote you a letter! Now your inspiring me to do a new wedding series on my blog...I never posted the actual pictures of our day!

  9. I absolutely love the dress that you are wearing. It's really cute. Also, your mom writing a letter is the sweetest.

  10. This is so fun to read! I'll have to go check out the proposal next! My Mom also wrote me a letter for my wedding day and I remember sobbing reading it!

  11. I love this so, so much!!! Your wedding was so sweetly executed by the people who love you!!
