Friday Favorites: Last One in 2016!

Happy Friday, y'all!  It's the last Friday of 2016, and sadly, the last Friday of my Christmas break.  Doesn't the time always seem to go by fast when you're having fun...and when you're older ha?!

I've got a few FAVORITES to share with y'all today!!

I shared my 2016 Year in Review on Wednesday.  2016 is a year I'll never forget, and I'm eagerly looking forward to 2017 and to what it holds.

Yesterday, I shared my book review for the books I read in December and I'm counting this cookbook as a book I read 😜  As weird as it sounds, it was my favorite book to read this month!  (I 💗 Chrissy Teigen)

Last week I had to make an exchange the day after Christmas at a local mall.  After I finished and since I was alone (and on my own time schedule), I stopped in Barnes and Noble to grab a coffee and picked up the February read for my book club to get a head start.  This one looks interesting to read.

I went to Nashville for the day on Tuesday and dusted off my parallel parking skills from college.  I literally hadn't parallel parked since college and was so excited that I did it perfectly that I made my best friend take a picture.  She was equally as excited haha!
P.S.  This outfit is a FAVORITE!!

I'm working on burning through my Christmas candles to make room for new candles.  Even though my tree isn't up anymore, my house still smells like a real Christmas tree!

Taking the ornaments off the tree is the worst thing in the world.  I hate it.  This year I tried a new strategy in order to keep my attention and to hopefully make me less bored.  I used to take all the ornaments off of the tree in one section, wrap them, and then move onto the next section.  This year I decided to take them off based on size and I started with the smallest ones first.  That kept my attention a lot better and I only took a few social media breaks during the process haha!

December 2016 Book Review

I didn't read very much in December for the same reason that I didn't read much in November.....Hallmark Christmas movies!  I read two books in December and they were very different from one another.  One was another suspenseful thriller like Gone Girl (which I love) and the other was a cookbook!  I'm totally counting it on my book review because I literally read the entire thing!

Amazon.com says...In this tightly wound, enthralling story reminiscent of Agatha Christie’s works, Lo Blacklock, a journalist who writes for a travel magazine, has just been given the assignment of a lifetime: a week on a luxury cruise with only a handful of cabins. The sky is clear, the waters calm, and the veneered, select guests jovial as the exclusive cruise ship, the Aurora, begins her voyage in the picturesque North Sea. At first, Lo’s stay is nothing but pleasant: the cabins are plush, the dinner parties are sparkling, and the guests are elegant. But as the week wears on, frigid winds whip the deck, gray skies fall, and Lo witnesses what she can only describe as a dark and terrifying nightmare: a woman being thrown overboard. The problem? All passengers remain accounted for—and so, the ship sails on as if nothing has happened, despite Lo’s desperate attempts to convey that something (or someone) has gone terribly, terribly wrong…

This book was enjoyable to read and did get suspenseful, but it wasn't my absolute favorite. I felt frustrated along with the main character when no one would believe her story about the woman being thrown overboard.  This book got creepy at the end and when I thought it was over...it wasn't and kept on going.  I would recommend this book for anyone to read as long as they've read Gone Girl and Girl on the Train first.  Gone Girl is my favorite suspense-thriller novel, and I keep comparing everything else to it.  This novel doesn't hold up, but it's still not a bad story!

Amazon.com says..Maybe she’s on a photo shoot in Zanzibar. Maybe she’s making people laugh on TV. But all Chrissy Teigen really wants to do is talk about dinner. Or breakfast. Lunch gets some love, too. For years, she’s been collecting, cooking, and Instagramming her favorite recipes, and here they are: from breakfast all day to John’s famous fried chicken with spicy honey butter to her mom’s Thai classics.

Salty, spicy, saucy, and fun as sin (that’s the food, but that’s Chrissy, too), these dishes are for family, for date night at home, for party time, and for a few life-sucks moments (salads). You’ll learn the importance of chili peppers, the secret to cheesy-cheeseless eggs, and life tips like how to use bacon as a home fragrance, the single best way to wake up in the morning, and how not to overthink men or Brussels sprouts. Because for Chrissy Teigen, cooking, eating, life, and love are one and the same.

I finally got this book at Christmas and could not put it down.  Y'all, I LOVE it!  Chrissy's humor is fantastic--a mix of sarcasm and wit--and I love that she has a humorous story for every recipe.  Plus, how can you not want to eat the food that she makes?  I actually made a recipe from this last night and it got Dustin's approval.  He liked it enough to make sure there were leftovers for his lunch today.  The pictures in Cravings are both of the food (which looks amazing) and of Chrissy and her husband, John Legend.  Now if she'd come out with a book on how she keeps such a good and fit body....

2016 Year in Review

This past year was my first year to choose my One Word for 2016.  I had always heard of people picking out a word for the year, so this year I decided to pick one for myself.  After much thought, I decided on the word JOY.  I wanted to spend 2016 focusing on finding my joy in Christ only and not in material things or my husband or my job or my home.  My year started out with that prayer and ended with that prayer!

January
We experienced a "blizzard" in Alabama 😂 Thankfully this was as much as we got and it melted the next day.  BUT we did get out of school early since the last time it snowed it was a total disaster for school let out!

February
We hosted 7-8th grade boys in our home for the weekend for DNOW, and it was an experience ha!

We also went bowling one night and Dustin learned that I was a superstar bowler.

March
We took a little spring break day trip to Nashville for the day, and I introduced D to his first experience at Jeni's.

April

I mailed in my portfolio and all of my paperwork in order to finish my internship for grad school!  All I had left was an exam in May and then I was done!

It was also warm enough in April to go out on the river for the first time--we love river days!

May
Janie and I went to see The Avett Brothers in concert in our old college town.  We had a great time listening to a band we both loved listening to in college.

We celebrated my graduation from grad school with a dinner with both of our families...and presents for me!

June
#wheredustinsleeps started since Dustin sleeps everywhere...including on my leg while we were supposed to be watching tv.

We went on a cruise to the Bahamas!  We loved the Bahamas (minus the crazy taxi drivers) and decided next time we could just stay at Atlantis!

July
We celebrated Dustin's 31st birthday!  He'd been wanting a 4 wheeler forever so I got him one...on his cake haha!

We also celebrated 2 years of marriage the very next day!

August
Someone got the 4 wheeler he'd been wanting...

I went to visit the Southern Living Idea House with Janie and was so obsessed with the living room--especially the gallery wall of these cranes?  birds?  ducks?

We went to a football game in town and were the only people who didn't bring rain gear.

I received this really fun surprise in the mail!

September
My husband proved he really loved me in September.

And I also finally got my dining room furniture!

October
We went to a wild game dinner and ate way too much deer, turkey, bison, and fish--and lots of other "fauna"  (my husband is a wildlife science grad and made me type fauna instead of species)

 My little sister turned 25.

We experienced a really scary health issue with Dustin's diabetes and he was hospitalized for 3 days.

I turned 29!

November
Mom and I went to Christmas Village and didn't buy anything Christmas related but lots of food.

Dad took Rachel and I to New Orleans for a 3 day weekend and we had a whole lotta fun!

December
December was fun....and then not fun.  I love Christmas and really enjoyed the lights and music, but I am ready for 2017 to get here.

My favorite thing about 2016?  All of the memories made with Dustin!  I am looking forward to many more in 2017.

Weekend Recap: Christmas Edition!!

Wow, this weekend went by super fast.  Christmas is a holiday I look forward to all year long, but that anticipation really starts when it hits fall.  Once football season starts, it seems like I have a checklist of holidays or milestones to hit before it finally becomes Christmas season--first day of fall, football Saturdays, my sister's birthday, my birthday, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and finally Black Friday (because that's when Christmas really begins haha!). I didn't take very many pictures this weekend except for on Christmas :)

On Friday I finished up a few errands, watched Hallmark movies, grocery shopped (never again that close to Christmas), and started baking for Saturday night.

Saturday morning I started making oreo balls for Sunday night.  This is right before I dipped all of those in white chocolate....so good!

Saturday night was Christmas with the Shaneyfelt family!

I snapped this driving into downtown Saturday night.  I love the lights my little town puts up at Christmas...one of my favorite traditions!

Unfortunately, Dustin had to work this weekend.  So we were up bright and early Sunday morning to open presents before he had to leave for work!  Ignore how awful I look because it's 3:30 in the morning 😜
I must have taped this one a lot haha!

I had to snap a picture of this gift tag!  Notice the number 7 circled--D puts numbers on my presents in the order that I am supposed to open them haha!

This gift was was too heavy and huge for me to wrap so I hid it in the guest bedroom.

Woohoo a basket rack for the 4 wheeler!

This is the exact Patagonia that I emailed the link to Dustin! 😂😂😂
(also ignore the beer box....you use any random box you can find for gifts when you get desperate!)

And I also emailed the link for these shoes, too!

I was really excited to open those shoes because I had been wanting them for so long!

Opening the gorgeous bracelet my MIL bought me and had Dustin give to me Christmas morning :)

Christmas morning with Daddio

Christmas night at my mom's--we're all watching A Christmas Story waiting on Dustin to get off work

Opening gifts

Sisters are built-in best friends for life 😊

This is the only photo we have from Christmas Day.  Since he won't be working next Christmas, I'm hoping for some really good and intentional pictures haha!

I sent this to my mom later that night because she got me this cute sweater!  I cannot wait to wear it!

I love finding out what people got for Christmas!  What was the most unexpected gift you received this year?!
