Life Lately

Thursday, October 13, 2016

Happy Thursday, y'all!  I'm declaring 3 day work weeks the best ever because I went back to school yesterday feeling the most refreshed I've ever felt!  And now today my week is halfway over :)  Can we have fall break every Monday and Tuesday?!

I want to share a little life lately with y'all--I haven't done one of these posts in a very long time!

Dustin and I aren't really into the same kinds of shows on TV....meaning he doesn't really like my reality tv and I'm not into Sportscaster or some hunting show.  We are in the never-ending process of watching Friday Night Lights right now #helloseason3  and really, that might be the first show we've ever fully watched together.

Except now.

Listen, the PR people for This Is Us need raises because not only was I seeing it advertised on TV, and every time I saw a preview, I said to D, "I want to start watching that!!"  But I also saw it on Facebook.  So I never forgot when it started.  Genius move, PR people.

The night the show began, Dustin was in the living room too and I asked him if he wanted to watch it with me.  Apparently he had nothing else better to do, so he did.  And the rest was history :)  Literally our favorite show ever!
And here Dustin is "watching" with me Tuesday night.  He only lasted about 30 minutes, but don't worry, I've recorded it so he can catch up :)

I'm also going to share about my sign above the door soon because I had lots of questions about it!

Carrie Underwood posted this workout on her IG this week, so I obviously screenshot it.  Hoping to have time to do it Friday!

Monday was my sister's 25th birthday and we went shopping and out to lunch since both mom and I were off of school.  Such a nice day!

And since my 29th (insert crying face) birthday is later this month, I've decided to take some intentional steps in being a little healthier and taking care of my body.  The first thing I'm working on is giving up sweets.  For me, sweets have become a daily occurrence instead of an occasional treat because it's like my body craves it.  (I've done some research on sugar and the brain and I may do a whole post on it later!)  I'm taking it small, and while I'm not giving up sugar completely since I'm eating foods (like breads, fruits) with sugars in it, I'm giving up desserts and any type of sweet.  I started Monday....headache that afternoon so I caved.  Then Tuesday....headache later in the day and I caved.  **I want to note that my headaches went away after I ate a dessert food--isn't that crazy?!  And yesterday was my first successful full day without a sweet!  I still had a headache when I got home from school, but I ate a tablespoon of natural peanut butter and it went away.  Now don't get me wrong, I'm not giving up sweets totally (hello, my birthday is coming up and you better believe I'll be eating cookie cake ha), but I'm working to where I have control over eating sweets instead of the other way around.

Tell me, have you ever given up sweets?  Or done something else that was good for your body?  I'd love to hear!

  1. Don't cry about 29...seriously your 30s are awesome, so don't be bummed about that at all! Plus you still have a FULL YEAR before you hit 30 anyway. So fun that you had a Fall Break and got to meet up with your sister for her birthday!
We've been watching This Is Us, also. I fell asleep during the last 30 minutes of it this week though (not due to interest, just exhaustion haha)

  2. We are hooked on This Is Us too! I am so excited that a show is on that or husbands will watch that doesn't involve sports, gore, or action! And I am with you on sweets, they are SO hard to give up. I did for Lent one year though and honestly it was my that bad! When I had major cravings I would turn to PB&J :-) maybe I should give it a go with you!

  3. Everyone is raving about this show. I need to watch! Your home is gorgeous Girl! :)

  4. I used to drink a LOT of coke. like a lot. like the first thing i did in the morning was drink a coke and that was one of about 4 or some days 5 cans a day! Crazy, right? Three - almost four years ago I went cold turkey and quit. Best decision ever. Occasionally now I'll have a sprite - mostly for the carbonation - and even rarer yet I'll have a root beer. The crazy thing is I don't miss it at all. I thought I could. I do want to eventually cut out sweets. We'll see how that goes.

  5. We have this is us on dvr to get caught up on soon! I've heard so many great things and can't wait to watch it! I have definitely noticed if I eat something sweet a few days in a row my body starts craving sugar every day. It's so addicting! Pasta and soft drinks are what I struggle to give up as much. I thought being told no caffeine would stop that but I just bought caffeine free so when those are gone I'm not buying any more so I'm not tempted at home!

  6. Love your couch! It looks so comfy. Do you mind me asking, where did you get it?

  7. This is Us is our new favorite as well! It has definitely exceeded my expectations and my expectations were already really high!

  8. Your living room looks so cozy!! Love that sign so I can't wait to hear more about it :) I'm also working on eating less sweets... they're my downfall. Glad you and your hubby have a show to watch together. I need to get busy at start watching This is Us because I've got it on my DVR I just haven't started it yet. I am watching The Voice and that's been good so far :)

  9. I have given up sweets several times in the past. The first time I did(14 years ago)was for about 3 years, with an occasional treat here and there.(maybe 1 sugar containing thing every 2 weeks) At first it was really hard but it does get easier. I have been on a mission to lose weight and get my health in check the past month. I have totally cut out sugar, except for fruit. I haven't missed it this time around!! Good luck! It does take about 3-4 days for the headaches to subside. Try eating a piece of fruit if you get one. It definitely works.

  10. We are loving This is Us. Best show since Parenthood, I think! We also loved Friday Night Lights, too, and were so sad when we got to the end.

So in my work I work with a lot of women adjusting to a more health-conscious meal plan and I find that pretty much everyone gets a terrible, pressure headache when they are weaning themselves off from whatever their favorite indulgence is (sweets, salty foods, too much caffeine, too much wine). Hang in there and it will get better after a couple days of consistency and it is totally ok to indulge in a sweet treat every now and then! I also second the suggestion above of eating a piece of fruit if you just can't shake it or even if you just really want something sweet. A cup of pineapple or watermelon is a great way to get your sweet fix.

  11. I've heard so many good things about This is Us! I really want to start watching it. Sounds like you had a fun Monday off, I wish we had it off in my school district! Giving up sugar is hard! I'm in the process of cutting back on my sweets as well and it's a struggle!

  12. It sounds like you had a great fall break! I need to learn to control my sweet tooth better, too. I'd love to read a future post about sugar addiction and hope the process goes well for you. Cheers, Laura

  13. My husband & I love This is Us also! It's seriously so good! I'm either crying or shouting WTF with all the cliffhangers.
