"always remember there was nothing worth sharing/ like the love that let us share our name"

Tuesday, July 26, 2016

It's been two years since we stood in front of hundreds of our friends and family and promised to love one another in the roles that God has designed for us.  Some days I feel like we were married just last week, and then other days I feel like we've been married forever.

But I do know one thing.

I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Dustin, you are the best thing that has ever happened to me, and I am forever grateful for your love.

No, these two years haven't always been easy, and I've learned so many things about you--and about myself--along the way.

I've learned that it is impossible for you to hold grudges.
While I can be mad at you for hours, you get over being mad at me about 5 seconds after our disagreement.  And then you try to joke around with me to get me in a better mood :)

I've learned that you help me stay on time to things.
I'm definitely optimistic in the things I can get done before having to be somewhere (or in estimating the amount of time it'll take me to get ready), so I run late a lot.  Now that you're in my life, you help me to stay on time.

I've learned that saying "I'm sorry" are the best two words we can say to each other.
We're pretty much the same person--we both have dominant personalities and we both think that our way is the better way.  Saying "I'm sorry" to each other and admitting our faults is the best thing we can do in our marriage.

I've learned that forgiveness is key.
Just like saying "I'm sorry" is important, it's also important to forgive--and to forgive easily.  Ephesians 4:32 tells us to be kind and compassionate to one another, but to also forgive because God has forgiven us.  Even if I don't feel like forgiving, I know it's biblical and my obedience is pleasing to God.

I've learned that you are a major list maker.
I didn't know the extent of your list-making before we got married.  I knew you made lists before you packed to go somewhere, but I thought that was it.  Now there are lists everywhere!!  Lists of things you need to buy, of what projects you want to complete for the house, of to do lists--I think you could take anything and make it into a list, and I love that about you!  (And as I'm typing this, you're sitting beside me making a list of ATVs.)

I've learned that you support me in anything that I want to do.
And not only do you support me, but you push me to do my best.  Any race I've ever run, you're there at the finish line cheering me on if you're able to be there.  My dream someday of owning a store--you're pushing me to get there.  I never have to worry that you'll laugh at anything I tell you I want to do because you are so unbelievably supportive of me.

I've learned that we complement each other perfectly.
Where you're Type A, I'm Type B.  Where I'm super girly-girl, you're a hunter and outdoorsman.  You obsess over our grass, I obsess over the inside of our house haha!  Even though we have our differences, we work so well together and I can't imagine us never being together.

Dustin, I am incredibly grateful for you and appreciative of you.  You strive each day to love me sacrificially, and you make me a better person.  You're the first person I always want to tell my good news to and the first person I cry to when I have a bad day.

Thanks for always making me laugh--I LOVE YOU!

Happy Two Year Anniversary!

Show and Tell Tuesday + a Guest Post!

Tuesday, July 19, 2016

Hi friends!  I'm checking in today for two reasons:  I really wanted to participate in the House Tour Show and Tell with Andrea AND I have a guest post that I've written :)  I have really enjoyed this mini break, but I've also missed y'all!  My little break will probably be ending before school starts back because I am excited to get back to writing.

First, head on over to Evelina's blog to check out my top 3 things to do in Alabama!  I live in such a wonderful state, and it was so hard narrowing my list down to 3 items.

Now, onto Show and Tell Tuesday!

If you want to see my house right after we finished building last summer, click on my Home Tours tab on the right hand side.  You can also check out the other homes I've featured on my blog, too.  (Side note: I'm bringing this series back!)

Today I'm not going to show my entire house, but I'm going to show a few of the rooms I've updated and added to since the last time I took pictures.

A few before pictures....
(Remember, click here to see the rest)

And the updated pictures!
I'm unhappy with this entry way.  I don't like that picture there, and it's all so dark with all of the wood.  I'm going to replace the picture and lamp and re-style this dresser eventually.  I've got other things that I'm working on right now, but I'm always on the lookout for the perfect piece of artwork and home decor items!

I added curtains and finished styling a few pieces--especially the mantle.

I used the same curtains from the living room in the breakfast room since the house is an open-concept floor plan and I wanted things to flow.  I also added a picture--a cow picture from my mom and I had framed.

In our bedroom...
I added the most beautiful curtains!  I've still got to add the tiebacks on the left and right so the curtains look like they are framing the room.  And I'm still looking for the perfect piece of art to place above the chest of drawers.  I bought something last weekend but it was too small so my mom is using it in her mudroom.
(The curtain rods look like they are slanting, but I think they look like that because I took this picture on the pano setting on my iPhone.)

And I added three botanical prints on the opposite side of the windows.  I'm still looking for art to go above each nightstand.  (So to sum it up, I'm always looking for artwork haha!)

Of course there are a million things I still want to do to the house:
-decide on a dining room table and purchase it before school starts
-buy a buffet and refinish it
-find chairs that are cheaper than $250/chair for the dining room
-buy a leather sectional for the upstairs tv room
-buy a tv for the upstairs tv room haha
-add more decorative pieces throughout the house

I'm glad to be back blogging today and I can't wait to check out the other blogs linking up for the home tour!

A Little Break

Thursday, July 7, 2016

Happy Thursday, ladies!

I'm checking in to let you know that I'm going to be taking a little break from this blog.  I'm hoping it won't be a long one, and I may even stop in a do a post every once in a while.  I'll still stop in to read your blog a few times a week, so don't be surprised if I leave a comment!

Thank you for being so understanding during this time.  I've spent time in prayer looking for direction, and I know I need to take a step back right now!

Peanut Butter and White Chocolate Chip Cookies

Tuesday, July 5, 2016

It's rainy where I am this morning, and for me, that's the perfect time to bake cookies.  And I've got the perfect and easiest cookies for you to try!  I whipped these up quickly and easily one day last week, and then took them to my sister's work where her office staff proceeded to eat the entire container.  They were that good!  And the best part?  So, so easy to make!

Peanut Butter and White Chocolate Chip Cookies

1 box yellow cake mix
1/2 cup peanut butter (creamy is best)
1/2 cup butter, softened
2 eggs
1 cup white chocolate chips

1. Preheat your oven to 350.
2. Mix together your cake mix, peanut butter, butter, and eggs.  Then stir in your white chocolate chips.
3. Drop small spoonfuls (using a teaspoon) on your cookie sheet and bake for 9-11 minutes.  Let cool on your cookie sheet for a couple of minutes before transferring cookies to a cooling rack.
*This made about 40 cookies for me.

Don't forget, you can use the print button at the bottom of this post to easily print out this recipe!

Friday Favorites!!

Friday, July 1, 2016

Happy Friday and first day of July!  I can't believe it's already July and that Monday is the 4th--slow down, summer!

Today I'm sharing a few of my favorite things!

Last night, Mom, Rachel, and I went out for a little girls' night.  We shopped at Bridgestreet and then ate at The Melting Pot.  My favorite part of eating there?  The chocolate!  We talked Mom into the smores chocolate and then proceeded to almost lick the pot after.

And I cut my hair on Tuesday!  I'm really enjoying it, and Dustin keeps telling me how much he loves it, too.

I love going to Bridgestreet and the weather last night was amazing!!  If Rachel didn't have to work today, we would have stayed and walked around longer.

It's no secret that Shay is my favorite blogger.  Monday she revealed her new blog design and swap to WordPress, and I have to say, I love her new design!  It's clean, easy to navigate, and I love the different fonts she chose.

We've got a big weekend ahead of us--Dustin is off work and my parents' huge picnic is on Monday!  I'll be back on Tuesday to recap everything.  Happy 4th of July!
