Thanksgiving Break in Pictures

Monday, November 30, 2015

Thanksgiving break is over and it's back to the real world today.  I can't believe that there's only three weeks left until we're out for Christmas break--time will fly by!  Yesterday started the Advent season, and if you don't have a devotion that you do during this season, I highly recommend the She Reads Truth Advent devotional.  The past two years I've done both of John Piper's devotions, and I've loved them so much.  But he didn't put out a new one, so I'm doing She Reads Truth!

This break was filled with lots of family gatherings, and I enjoyed every minute of it!  Dustin and I take for granted the amount of family gatherings we have to attend in a short amount of time, but when I step back and think about it, I realize how blessed we are because some don't have any family gatherings to attend.

These are pictures of just a few of the things we did this break.

I took off work Tuesday since we had a Friendsgiving at our house that night.  I wanted the whole day to clean and prepare for that night.

I started my morning with an egg white and Advocare Spark breakfast and read my favorite blog.

Lunch with my dad at my favorite place after we made a quick run to Hobby Lobby.

Wednesday night we did Thanksgiving with Dustin's dad's side.  This is who I married ha :)

Thanksgiving day started with lunch at my mom's.

I didn't get any pictures of the rest of our Thanksgiving day, but we also went to my dad's side and Dustin's parents.  I didn't want to look at food anymore after all of that!

On Black Friday, my mom met me at my house at 4:30 AM and we headed to Lowe's to see if I could get Dustin the present he wanted.
(Notice my mom fixed her hair and put on make up.  And I woke up, brushed my teeth, and bobby pinned yesterday's hair.)

Our next stop was Cabela's.  This is only part of the line!  It was insane!

We then headed to Bridge Street where we did a lot of shopping!

Later that day, my sister asked if I wanted to go to Lowe's with her (a different one than that morning) to look for some stuff for her house.  I decided to just see if this Lowe's had the present Dustin wanted since the one that morning didn't--they did!  I bought it and Dustin had to pick it up that night after he got off of work.  He can't open it until Christmas!

Saturday Rachel and I went to the gym.  Then we did a little grocery shopping together.  Apparently I'm a slow grocery shopper, and this is Rachel's "I'm happy to finally be in the check out line" face!

Sunday I wore a Black Friday purchase to church!  My top looks like a sweater, but it's a sweatshirt!!!!!!

It's a high-low hem--I love it so much that I ordered another one online!

Mom and I also saw Love the Coopers.  Don't expect a funny movie and you won't be let down.  It wasn't my favorite and it wouldn't bother me if I never watched it again.

Linking up with Biana today!

What's Up Wednesday--November 2015

Wednesday, November 25, 2015

Happy Thanksgiving Eve, y'all!  Today is officially the start of Thanksgiving break from school, but I took off yesterday to get everything ready for our Friendsgiving last night--which was yum!

I'm linking up with Shay for What's Up Wednesday and Jenn for What's Hap-pinning!

What we're eating this week...
We started out this week eating this Sloppy Joe Casserole that I made.
We started our Thanksgiving feasts last night and will finish Thursday night.  I'm not eating anymore after that!!

What I'm reminiscing about...
Last year was our first married Thanksgiving.  There's something sweet about experiencing the holidays when you're first married!

What I'm loving...
Our fireplace!
Our weather in Alabama has been crazy--sometimes freezing and sometimes on the warmer side, so we haven't  turned on our heat yet.  Thank goodness for a fireplace though!

What we've been up to...
The usual--work, grad school, etc.  But I have exciting news!  Dustin just received a promotion at work and he will be switching to the day shift position!!!  That means he'll be home every single night!!!!  I'm really hoping this more structured schedule helps regulate his blood sugars--he's a Type I Diabetic.

What I'm dreading...
Thanksgiving meals?  I know that sounds crazy!  I love being with friends and family but because I battle with my weight (and I've been consistently using My Fitness Pal and losing weight with that) I'm dreading all of the really fattening food at the 500 meals Dustin and I have to attend--not really that many but it feels like it.

What I'm working on...
I technically should be working on my grad school assignment for this week, but I'll wait until after Thanksgiving!

What I'm excited about...
Black Friday shopping!!!  Anyone with me?

What I'm watching/reading...
I'm catching up on Grey's and Scandal.
I haven't done my post of what I read in November, but here are the books I read in October.

What I'm listening to...
Judah and the Lion
Christmas music!

What I'm wearing...
Lots of printed clothing!

And some workout clothes!

What I'm doing this weekend...
Black Friday shopping, Iron Bowl watching, and grad school homework

What I'm looking forward to next month...
Everything Christmas!  It's my most favorite time of the year!

What else is new...
Not much is new except for Dustin's new job and we are so thankful for that.

Bonus Question:
What's your favorite Christmas tradition?
Dustin and I started the tradition of buying each other a small gift (under $20) for us to exchange on Christmas Eve.  It's always fun to figure out something to buy and we love giving the gifts to each other!

Sloppy Joe Casserole

Tuesday, November 24, 2015

Last night I was talking to my friend Victoria about meals that are perfect for the days leading up to Thanksgiving.  If you're like me, you're too busy planning and preparing for Thanksgiving and not really into whipping up a huge dinner.  I've made this casserole recipe before and it was requested again by my husband.  It was a perfect size dish that lasted us for a few meals.

As my husband and I were eating the last of this casserole last night for dinner, I mentioned how perfect it was for cold weather, too (it was 31 degrees last night!!).  I originally found this recipe on Mix and Match Mama (because I love her), but I altered it to fit my family's needs.

Sloppy Joe Casserole

1 lb ground turkey (lean)
1 onion, chopped
1 1/4 cup ketchup
1/4 cup Splenda brown sugar
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp chili powder (I like to use 2 tbsp)
1 box Jiffy cornbread mix
1/2 cup milk
1 egg

1. Preheat oven to 350 and grease a 9x13 inch dish
2. Brown turkey meat and onion together.
3. After meat is browned, add in ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and chili powder.  Stir and let simmer for 5-7 minutes.  Pour this mixture into your greased 9x13 pan.
4. Mix together Jiffy mix, milk, and egg.  Pour this mixture over the meat mixture and spread out as evenly as you can over the meat.
5. Bake about 20 minutes.

We make 6 large servings out of this casserole!

Friday Favorites!

Friday, November 20, 2015

I'm linking up with Andrea today for Friday Favorites!

It's Friday and that's a FAVORITE all in itself!

We had a baby shower at school on Tuesday for Taylor, and I am so excited for her to have Elizabeth!  Her cake was so cute (and so good) but I didn't get a picture of it.  By the way, her maternity dress is my FAVORITE!  How cute does she look?

If you can't tell from this picture and the one above, printed pants from Anthro are my FAVORITE!!!

Yesterday before Dustin left for work, I told him how I liked his shorter haircut with the facial hair.  Then I told him I wanted to take a picture since he'll have to shave it soon for work.  The following pictures are from his "photoshoot" and if you didn't realize it yet, he's my FAVORITE forever :)

He's the best and so much fun to be around!
(Please ignore my tree in the background...I still need a topper)

Have a happy weekend!

My House Tour--Upstairs Game Room, Bedroom 4, and Bath 3

Tuesday, November 17, 2015

This is the last of my Home Tour posts.  (You can see the other posts here.)

The upstairs is an area that's neglected right now.  We've got plans for the upstairs but they are low on the list of things that need to be done to the house.

The stairs are right beside the door to our master bedroom.

I'm hiding a few boxes in this picture so you can't see the whole room, but this room will eventually be a TV room for the boys.  I want leather furniture up here so I don't have to worry about food or drink that might get spilled while the game is on :)

This is the bathroom for upstairs.

This is the upstairs bedroom and I plan on turning it into an office and reading room.  Since this room has the slanted ceilings, I found some white book cases from IKEA that I like, but Dustin said he an build some just like the ones I like!

This picture is now hung at the bottom of the stairs :)  It's my favorite wedding picture and I love that it can be seen from our bedroom and from the living room.

I can't wait to update all of my posts next year to see how far I've come with decorating!

October Reads

Monday, November 16, 2015

I'm departing from my usual Weekend Recap to play a little catch up on something I meant to post back in October.

If you've been reading my blog for a little while now, you know I'm in grad school and that means I pretty much have no time to read for fun.  When I got a 10 day break back in October in between grad terms, I took advantage of that and read a couple of books.

My friend Victoria recommended this book to me and it was my favorite out of the three books I read during that break.  I liked it so much that I recommended it to a lady at my school who is in my book club and she liked it too!  It's not your typical love story.  The main character's family owns a vineyard and the story is told along with the process of wine making.  I highly recommend this book!  If you do read it--let me know what you think of it!

I loved Laura Dave's first book so much that I read another book of hers.  This one was interesting and I liked it, but Eight Hundred Grapes was still my favorite.

This is the follow up sequel to Me Before You (which I loved so much).  Louisa has to learn how to live life without Will.  I wasn't such a fan of this book, but everyone else who has read it loved it.  It may just be me haha!

What should I read next?

Friday Favorites!

Friday, November 13, 2015

Friday, I'm so glad you're here!  This has been a jam-packed week and I'm still exhausted from last weekend.  I'm really hoping to rest some this weekend and watch a couple of movies (and do my grad school homework, too).

This past week started out as a FAVORITE when my school hosted our annual Veterans Day program.  If you follow me on Instagram, then you've already seen this picture, but I was so happy my Popo was able to come!  He fought during the Korean War.  I remember when I was little my Gran would show me some of Popo's things he had brought back from the war.  Sadly, my dad--who was in the Air Force--was unable to come because of work.

This is a semi-FAVORITE.  So I found this pumpkin-flavored yogurt, and since I'm on a pumpkin kick right  now, I decided to give it a try.  I had it for breakfast Tuesday morning and loved the first 4 bites......then didn't love it anymore!  I think it would really be good at any meal except for breakfast!

The location of our house is a major FAVORITE because since I was out of school Wednesday, I was able to run to the park to do laps around it instead of driving to the park like I used to!  I was expecting a lot of people doing laps, too, and there was only one other man.  By the time I left, more people had come but I had to snap this picture to show how beautiful Wednesday morning was.

Christmas is my absolute FAVORITE holiday!!!  I love the celebration surrounding the birth of Jesus.  I took advantage of an off day on Wednesday to decorate.  This was just a small portion of what went out.

Last night my mom and I went to Christmas open house in the town next to ours.  We went into a children's store because I saw these through the window.  I immediately thought of dressing my future children in these jammies for pictures with Santa!  I'm so in love with those clothes!

My House Tour--Master Bedroom and Bath

Wednesday, November 11, 2015

Before I start today's house tour, I want to thank all of the veterans!  I am so grateful for the men and women who are willing to serve our country so that we can sleep soundly at night knowing we are safe!

In between my monthly House Tour Tuesdays, I've been showing bits and pieces of our home.  We finished building and moved into our home in June 2015.  I've decided that even though I'm not finished decorating our house (and probably won't be for a few years because...$$$), I still want people to come and feel welcome!  You can click on this link to see the other areas of my home that I've posted about, but today we're going to check out the master side of my home.

This is the only photo I took of our bedroom.  It's nothing special right now--I'm still searching for artwork that is meaningful instead of just buying something for the sake of buying.
The entrance to the bathroom is a pocket door and it tucks into the wall space to the right of the door frame.  Does anyone have a suggestion of what I can put in that area since I've been told I can't hang anything because of the pocket door?

Not pictured:  the closet to the left of the mirror and the two windows.

When we build again, I'm getting separate vanities and I'm having tons of drawers on mine!  I LOVE having separate sinks, but I use the two bottoms drawers and that's not enough!

My FAVORITE part of my house!!!  I'm in love with this shower!  It's huge and when we first moved in, I took extremely long showers!

I love taking a good bath too with lavender oil.  I've found out that if I put my head on the end with the faucet, I can watch TV while bathing!  #itsthelittlethings

This pocket door leads to our closet.  I need major help organizing my shelves--which is why the door is closed :)

This door leads to my #1 request in a house....actually not #1 but definitely on my top 5 list when we were looking at home and house plans.  If you know me at all, then you know how important it was for me to have a separate toilet room.  #enoughsaid

I know I have a lot of work to do decorating and making our room more homey.
 What do you suggest?

I'm linking up with Jenn today!

A Weekend Recap in Pictures

Monday, November 9, 2015

This weekend was so much fun!  We stayed up late both Friday and Saturday night out doing stuff so on Sunday, we were in bed and asleep by 9 PM.  #oldpeopleprobs

Dustin got me tickets to see Ben Rector for my birthday so we ate at Mugshots before the concert!

The problem with having a concert in an old theater--you can't see!  I took this picture to remember how hard it was for me to see, and I'm not short!  I stood on my tip toes a lot.

The opener:  Judah and the Lion

Ben Rector!!!

I baked a cake for the football game...

Alabama vs LSU was a great game!

Sometimes you show up and you match your brother without even planning it.

We celebrated my brother-in-law's birthday (and their dog's).

I really need a weekend to recoup from this weekend!  Thankfully we are out of school on Wednesday, so I plan on sleeping in :)
