Friday Favorites!

Friday, May 29, 2015

Last Friday I was on the beach, and today.....I'm at home.  I have loved my first week off of school because I've literally had so much to do each day that I know there's no way it could have gotten done if school was still in session.  Here are a few of my FAVORITES from this past week!

Summer is one of my FAVORITE times of year because I can go to the morning classes at my gym!  I've decided each week to go to the Tuesday and Thursday morning classes.  The first 30 minutes of each class is a cardio class and the last 30 minutes is a core class.  Tuesday's class was not that bad, although I was just a little bit sore Wednesday morning when I woke up.  Yesterday's class---umm, a lot harder!  I love being challenged in my workout because I need it.  Group classes help me stay motivated because I know that if I were working out alone, I might have quit.  But if there are other people in the room, I have to keep doing it.  Is there anyone else like me?

We have a healthy grocery store about 35-40 minutes away from us and it is one of my FAVORITE places to eat a meal!  I think it's so funny that this grocery store has an area for people to eat a meal, but it was packed when we went.  Dustin had never been and we had to go to Huntsville to pick out appliances, so I talked him into asked him to eat there.  He was hesitant at first and then fell in love!  I had salmon, rice, and creamed spinach (not pictured is my tasty kale lemonade).  Dustin had sushi and a salad.  Their salad bar is awesome, but you have to be careful.  You pay by the pound, so you better make sure you eat everything you put in your bowl!

This week I read THIS blog post by Jen Hatmaker and it is my FAVORITE blog post I've read this week.  She wrote about the Yes's and No's of parenting.  Even though I'm not a parent yet, I really appreciated her post.  As a teacher of seventh graders, I see too many kids getting everything they want and having their summers packed full with so many activities.  Jen talks about how she tries to always say yes to things with emotional attachments--building forts in the living room, spend the night parties, toys strolled out everywhere, and she says no to a lot of material items that aren't a need and says no to micromanaging her kids' lives.  I loved it!  She encourages parents to let their kids just be kids and to play instead of constantly planning activities for them (she's not against planning activities for her kids, but not constantly).  I hope I keep this mind when I have babies :)
(I stole this photo from Jen's blog--it's kids....playing outside!! Do they still do that?)

I took a print I had bought online to my local framing store, and while I was picking out the matting and framing, I asked about needing more prints for the new house since I didn't buy anything for our apartment.  The owner told me to check out  I went home and checked it out that night and found lots of prints I loved!  It is my new FAVORITE place to order artwork.  The best thing about it was the prices--they weren't ridiculously expensive.  I was talking to my bff about this website and we both agreed that we don't know the first thing about art other than if we think it's pretty or not.  So this website is the perfect solution for people like us.  Below is one of the prints I ordered, and I ordered a 30x34 because I have some big walls to decorate!
(I am not being paid to promote just loved it.  And this print is by Georgia O'Keefe, and I have always loved her.)

Happy Friday everyone!

What's Up Wednesday

Wednesday, May 27, 2015

Today I'm linking up with Shay for another What's Up Wednesday post.  To see last month's post, click here.

What we're eating this week...
I did a screen shot of this new dessert recipe on Monday because I'm always looking to try something new and this recipe is HEALTHY!  It's for making your own healthy strawberry ice cream sandwiches.  I plan on making it either tomorrow or Friday :)

What I'm reminiscing about...
Our trip to the beach Memorial Day weekend.  It was much needed!

What I'm loving...
Being out of school!  I was so ready for summer vacation only because I have a lot on my plate this summer.  Grad school classes started back today; I have a Bible study that I'm leading weekly starting tonight; I've got VBS, workshops, moving houses and classrooms and our one year anniversary all this summer.

What we've been up to...
If you read Tuesday's post, we just got back from the beach!

What I'm dreading...
Grad school this summer--I'm taking STATISTICS (I'm crying now).  Whyyy does a school librarian need to know statistics???  I'm also taking a children's/young adult lit class and I've got 9 novels to read, too...

What I'm working on...
I've been studying for Bible study tonight.  The book we're doing is called Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life by Donald Whitney.  I've only read chapter one but I love it so far.

What I'm excited about...
Moving into our house next month!!!!!  We went by it yesterday and here's a sneak peek of the front door that I'm so in love with:

What I'm watching/reading...
Besides reading the book for my Bible study, I'm reading Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern.  It's interesting right now.  It's about a circus that is open only at night and everything is in black and white.  I'm still trying to figure out what's going on.

What I'm listening to...
My dad is taking us to see the Alabama Shakes in August at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater and I have been listening to this song on repeat nonstop!  I can't wait!  (This concert is on a Thursday night.....prayers for the next day needed starting now ha)

What I'm wearing...
I got so many compliments on the clothes I wore at the beach this past weekend!  This romper is (believe it or not) from Forever 21!  It's so cute and has the cutest open back.  And it only cost $25....oh yeah!

This dress came from Dillard's last July.  I could not find a going away dress for the wedding and I looked forever.  I knew that I didn't want to wear the traditional white dress, and I thought I wanted to wear one of the wedding colors--pastel blue or pastel pink, but I couldn't find anything that I liked in those colors.  So about a week before the wedding, my mom found this dress in Dillards and it was perfect!

This dress has a super cute open back, too.

What I'm doing this weekend...
Nothing special!  This is my first weekend off of school and I'm so glad I don't have anything planned.  I do have a wedding to go to on Saturday night but that's it.

What I'm looking forward to next month...

What else is new...
I'm really hoping to step up my workouts this summer now that I will have more time.  I've got a few more sessions with my personal trainer left and I went to a morning Groupfit class at my gym yesterday.  I'm hoping to wake up earlier this summer to run before the heat gets too hot.

Weekend Recap (...on a Tuesday)

Tuesday, May 26, 2015

We had the BEST Memorial Day weekend we could have had!  Dustin's family planned a family beach vacation, and I'm so glad that Dustin's work schedule worked out so he was able to go.  Our long weekend started on Thursday as soon I got home from school (we didn't have any students on Thursday, so I spent the day doing paperwork and tying up loose ends).  I had packed all of my clothes and beach things on Wednesday night, and all I had left to do Thursday after school was packing my toiletry items--which I think is the easiest since everything is pretty much together.  We left Hartselle around 4:00 P.M. and headed south for Gulf Shores!  We hit Birmingham during rush hour and it pretty much took us an hour to make it through Birmingham.  But after we made it through the city, we had good traffic flow the rest of the time.

We got to the beach house a little after 11:00 P.M. that night and unpacked and went to bed.  We spent the next 3 days on the beach during the day and then eating out that night--which is my kind of beach vacation!

We left a little later than we had planned on Thursday afternoon, but it was not my fault this time!  I sent Dustin to pick up a beach chair from my sister on his way to pick up his insulin supplies and he completely forgot to stop and get his insulin supplies.  He got home with the chair and had to leave to go back to the pharmacy.

The beach felt pretty empty on Friday, but that's only because everyone was probably traveling to the beach for the holiday weekend.  Saturday the beach was PACKED and Sunday met us with 50 mph winds (or what felt like it) and a red flag :(

We took the boys out to eat Thursday night.  (Wearing this romper makes me motivated to lose the last few pounds to get back to honeymoon weight because it looked way better on me on our honeymoon.  I love having motivation since I've been lacking there lately.)

Waiting at Sea-N-Suds Thursday night.  I love this restaurant because of its location right on the beach.  The restaurants at the beach have lots of fried food which I don't eat (but had a few bites Sunday night), so I got a grilled chicken sandwich.  I'm not the biggest fan of seafood and Dustin is.  Marriage = compromise :)

We took a few beach pictures Saturday night after we ate at Live Bait as a family.  I love him!

 My sister-in-law and I

The whole Shaneyfelt family--David and Jackie and their two boys: Wes (with Brandi, Stoney, and Austen) and Dustin (and me)

I was very adamant that my purse not touch the sand when we had a big group family photo.  I arranged a few pairs of shoes to sit my purse on and this shows how careful I was with my purse haha!

We had a lot of fun on this trip!

Me with the boys--this shows their personalities so well!  This is getting ready to go out to eat Sunday night at The Original Oyster House.  And I need my roots done stat.

We left Sunday night after eating with his family to head back to north Alabama.  Dustin had to go back to work on Monday night and it was better for his sleeping patter to stay up late Sunday night-Mondan morning so he could sleep more on Monday.  We left the restaurant at 8:00 P.M. and got back to Hartselle at 1:15 A.M.  I stayed awake the whole time to keep Dustin company as he drove.  For anyone who knows me, this is a HUGE deal!  And I did this without caffeine since I don't drink anything caffeinated.  We unpacked a few things and went to sleep around 2 A.M. and Monday morning was ROUGH for me.  Thank goodness it's my summer break!  We had such a great time at the beach and we go back by ourselves for 5 days in 2 weeks!

I'm Still Here :)

Tuesday, May 19, 2015

I took a little unexpected blogging break the last two weeks.  In case you didn't know, this time of year for a teacher is INSANE.  As in, yesterday the kids were nuts.  We played a review game on Kahoot for our exam today and tomorrow, and the majority of my kids were more concerned with how they ranked against their classmates instead of why a certain answer is correct.  They are done and just ready to be out of school.  And so are the teachers!  But I will say, I am going to miss this group so much next year.  God really blessed me with such a fun and easy-going group this year.  This school year hasn't been the easiest for me, and I am so grateful for these kids.

My sister went with me on Sunday to check out an open house in the town next to ours.  Our builder just finished up this house and is selling it so he wanted me to go check out the kitchen countertops.  I loved them!  (These are also the color of the cabinets that we're getting in our house--Antique White.)

The best thing about that house was the massive kitchen island.  Other than that, I love my house better :)  Thanks, Rach, for coming with me to this house!

They painted the ceiling yesterday at our house AND I AM IN LOVE!  I went with a color that is not typical--and it actually might not be in any other house.  I can't wait for the finished product so I can post pictures!  I kept walking through our house telling Dustin how much I loved the ceiling color.

In the last few days I've picked out all of our light fixtures (oh my gosh, expensive!) and yesterday we finalized flooring choices!  I picked out the hardwood, bedroom carpet, bathroom/laundry room floor tile, and the tile for our shower!  Gorgeous!  I can't wait to see it  finished.  Actually, I can't wait to move in.  Please hurry house!

Friday Favorites!

Friday, May 8, 2015

Today's post is going to be short and sweet because I am writing this while I watch Scandal....and Scandal takes precedent!  By the way, who watched Scandal last night because the first 15 minutes were CRAY!!

This is my FAVORITE color combination!  I was really excited to see it done this Tuesday afternoon.  The only thing missing is the posts, and they will match the light trim.  This is one thing (out of just a few ha) that Dustin and I disagreed on but I went with what he wanted and I'm glad.  I didn't think I wanted contrasting cedar shake and trim, but it looks great!  Way to go, D!  Now you'll get to love all of the paint colors I pick out :)

This is my FAVORITE picture this week!  Someone who I'm not going to name hit a massive pot hole and bent my wheel (two years ago).  Well, that person just now got around to ordering me a replacement.  He was doing a little dance showing me my new wheel when I got home from school this week.  I might have to upload that dance some other time haha!

This guy is my FAVORITE 4-wheeler driver!  As in, I might prefer riding with him over my own husband.  And this is probably because I know how accident-prone and crazy my husband is, and I threatened my nephew with his life if he drove recklessly with me on it.  We went out to Dustin's parents one night this week and Stoney drove me around....dressed like that while I had on Nike running shorts.  One of us cares more about looks than the other :)

We had Twin Day at school this week and this lady is my FAVORITE!!!  I only WISH I looked like her!  Seriously, I am so lucky to get to work along side Mrs. Roden and I really hope I look like her when I am her age.  P.S.  We have on the same shoes, jeans, and earrings :)  And I should have let her do my hair that morning!

Life Lately...

Tuesday, May 5, 2015

...has been crazy!!!  I finished up with my very first grad school finals on Sunday night, so I've got about a three week break before I start my summer term.  I didn't have time to do a Friday Favorites post last Friday because I was so busy with wrapping up grad school projects and papers.  So I'll do a Friday Favorites on Tuesday!

I got to help judge a food competition in Home Ec last week.  This was the cute little set up they had for me when I got into the classroom, and the jam was a thank you for judging.  So cute!

This mini apple pie won hands down.  So, so good that I might have eaten the whole thing...

We baby sat for some friends last week.  This was the sight I saw after I got done picking some toys up.  Be still my heart!

Praise the Lord, it's May!  And I also drank healthy smoothies for breakfast for two weeks straight!  I think that calls for celebration :)  And I did.  I had whole grain blueberry muffins this past weekend as my celebration haha!

I saw this in Hobby Lobby this past weekend and immediately send Dustin a picture.  It would look great as an entry way table!  (Hint hint, Dustin)

Remember when I blogged about my Lilly for Target purchase?  Well, it came in and this sad looking photo resulted.  It was too snug, too short, and I was hiding the snugness in the chest area.

So now my mom is the proud owner!  Doesn't she look so cute??  She looks so much better in it than I did and I'm so glad that she loved it, too!

House Update 5.4.15

Monday, May 4, 2015

It's time for a long overdue house update!  Things are moving along quickly, and since this week is going to be beautiful, they should get more done!  At the end of this post, I've listed what's next!

April progress:

First of April!!!!  Yay!!

We were so excited when they put the tubs in!

And so excited to see our gas fireplace!

To the left is the dining room and the living room is to the right.  The kitchen is behind that wall.

This is Ole Cahaba brick, and we agonized over it forever.  I wanted white brick but our subdivision requires browns so we went with this.  Since we can't have white brick, I'm so glad we have this!

Sheetrock was delivered in April

And installed, too!  This will be the guest room.

Bricking is finished and now it's time for vinyl trim and cedar shake.

The finishers are almost completely done with the sheetrock and should be done this week! This was taken from the breakfast room.

If you look closely, they have started putting vinyl trim up.  We went with a lighter vinyl trim and dark brown cedar shake.  I'm so excited to see how it looks!

What's next?
-Cedar shake
-Interior trim
-Paint colors
